Warning Against Adultery

Updated: Sep 20, 2022

Scripture Text: Proverbs 5:3-4

For the lips of a forbidden woman drip honey,

and her speech is smoother than oil,

but in the end she is bitter as wormwood,

sharp as a two-edged sword.

Proverbs 5:3-4

In this proverb, the woman speaking was the foolish who did not know the godly way of life. Her lips were full of lies and worldly desires that can cause a simple man and a king to be ruined. Her smooth talk and her speech were dripped with honey. When any man hears it without thinking first, he will be trapped by these seductive words of this adulteress woman.

King Solomon was one of the victims of this woman. We know that King Solomon had many wives, from inter-marriage with non-Israelites. The Lord warned King Solomon, but he did not listen and did not obey the Lord. These foreign women surely turn the heart of the king after their gods and this led him astray. King Solomon's heart was not fully devoted to the Lord because he listened to his foreign wives and he did evil in the eyes of the Lord by building a high place for Chemosh, the detestable god of Moab, and for Moleck, the detestable god of Ammonites. He also did burn incense and he offered sacrifices to their gods. When King Solomon did these, the Lord became angry and the Lord disciplined him through the consequences of his deeds.

In our day, believers or unbelievers are seduced by this woman with her sweet lips of adulteress. The proverb gave us warning to beware of her traps especially when you have your wife. Be faithful to your spouse do not let this woman catch you because she is dangerous and can ruin kings or even a simple man who turns his way toward this kind of woman.

Like the command of Jesus Christ said, "Do not look lustfully at a woman, cut it off immediately, stay away from her. Do not entertain her. Her paths are crooked, her steps lead straight to the grave, her feet go down to death." So man of God, listen to the instructions of the Lord. Stay away from her—that is the warning and command, else you will end up your life.

Remember, Proverbs 31:2-3 says, "O my son, O son of my womb, O son of my vows, do not waste your strength on women, on those who ruin kings."

Reflect

1. Man, do you entertain such adulterous woman? 2. Do you avoid the misleading lips of hers?

Remember

If you already have a spouse, never entertain any flirting woman in your heart. Avoid her and you will live life. Listen to the warning against adulterous woman.

Pray

Dear Lord, protect me and help me to listen to Your warning to avoid such seductive woman. Lead me in the right way so that I may live happy and prosperous with my spouse. Thank You, Lord, for Your guidance. This I pray, in Jesus' Name. Amen.
