Scripture Text: Proverbs 10:27
The fear of the Lord prolongs life,
but the years of the wicked will be short.
Proverbs 10:27
There are many opportunities and chances that can arrive for every individual during his life. We want to experience and feel the fulfillment of dreams, like going around the world, exploring the deep sea, and living as aliens in outer space. However, sometimes we do not have enough time to do it one by one because our life here on earth is too short.
I think the author of the Proverbs enjoys life to the fullest, even though his life was short, because he fears God. The fear of the Lord will satisfy us even for a short period of time. The Lord knows how long we will stay here alive. He is the author of life.
Now l want to discuss that the Lord adds length to life, how it is possible, and how one can accumulate long life. The psalmist had shared his thought to us by listening to him, because he knew how to fear the Lord. In Psalm 34:11-14, it says, "Come, my children, listen to me; I will teach you the fear of the Lord. Whoever of you loves life and desires to see many good days, keep your tongue from evil and your lips from telling lies. Turn from evil and do good; seek peace and pursue it."
The psalmist enumerates how to live life to the fullest. First, keep your tongue from speaking lies. Lies are committed by most people, including believers, but how can we keep our lips from speaking lies? The answer is to feed our mind with the word of God because the truth will set us free from lies. Many information outside the Bible are half truth and we cannot rely on it. Thus, we must know the truth of God. Second, do good. When we are trustworthy, we can do good and others will recognize it. Others are looking to us as one they can trust, and as Christians, we must be a trustworthy believers. Do good means sharing our faith to them teach them the ways of God so that they can see our good example doing the commands of God. Third is to seek peace and pursue it. We are now living in these dangerous days, there are so many disturbances and fake people around us who can pressure us to do evil because of their passion in this world but peace comes only from God by fearing Him. Peace will guide us to live a holy life. We do not need to argue with them to win the issue, we just say our part, and if they do not listen, it's fine—no need to insist our part, have peace with them.
To fear the Lord adds length of life by trusting His word and live according to his will.
