Confident in the Side of God

Scripture Text: Proverbs 10:22

The blessing of the Lord makes rich, and he adds no sorrow with it.

Proverbs 10:22

When we ask people what is their top desire in life, almost everyone answers that they want to get rich—to have a lot of money to buy everything and anything.

In the Bible, many followers of God became rich, especially the kings. They profited from the fields that is part of their rights, but their wealth will not surpass them. The wealth of King Solomon was greater than other kings. He had riches and wisdom, the most favored of all the kings on earth.

We think that having all the riches in this world will bring happiness and victory, but that is not true. Many who got rich have faced troubles in their lifetime. King Solomon received all the riches, but had many troubles. Why? Because during his life, King Solomon devoted himself to the Lord, but when he became old, he completely disregarded it. He followed Ashtoreth the goddess of the Sidonians, and Molech the detestable god of the Ammonites. He relied on those gods and disobeyed the Lord that's why trouble was always present in his life. He relied on horses to win the battle, but he failed. He relied on his wealth, but it was meaningless to him. Even King Solomon acted foolishly for his attitude by trusting others instead of the Lord.

He always received favor from God because God looks to Solomon's father, David, and for the sake of David, the Lord decided not to punish him in his lifetime. The Lord disciplined him. He received blessing when he turned back to God and added no trouble to him. We must learn from King Solomon; we must not follow his foolishness to rely on himself and other gods, because instead of blessing, we will receive curse if we disobey the Lord.

Now how can we understand this Proverbs 10:22, "The Lord blesses people with wealth and adds no trouble to it."? Wealth here is favor of the Lord to the one He loves, material things and great abundance of anything and those who receive it have contentment on what they receive from the Lord. If we are content, we have freedom from worries. We may not escape troubles, but we are not easily disturbed because we know that the source of our wealth and blessing is from God. When we recognize that God is the source of blessing, we experience great joy and become carefree of our troubles because it is only temporary and the Lord is in our side and is always there to help us in our day to day struggles.

So, when the Lord gives some blessing and favor, make sure you know that God is the source who gave the best for us. Always recognize Him and do not rely on our own self, rather, we must put our trust in God.

Reflect

1. What blessings do you receive from God?

2. Are you content with what you have?

Remember

Contentment is the key when the Lord blesses us. Just remember, always look for the source—the Lord our God—and we will find no worries in our lives.

Dear Lord, thank You for giving me blessings—food to eat, a healthy body, and nourishment of my spirit. I recognize You Lord as the source of everything. This I pray in Jesus' Name. Amen.
