The Richness of Knowing God

Scripture Text: Ecclesiastes 6:1-2

There is an evil that I have seen under the sun, and it lies heavy on mankind: a man to whom God gives wealth, possessions, and honor, so that he lacks nothing of all that he desires, yet God does not give him power to enjoy them, but a stranger enjoys them. This is vanity; it is a grievous evil.

Ecclesiastes 6:1-2

What a waste of time when God leads a man to not be satisfied in his life. The author has seen and observed this kind of fate. Do you see a man who can afford everything he desires but never satisfied of everything he wanted?

Most people think that if he got everything he wants, he is the most successful man in this world. Yes, the Lord provides everything in the needs of man, but sometimes God does not enable man to enjoy those provisions. If a man does not enjoy what God provides, there is something wrong. Maybe the man did not recognize the source of his wealth. He thinks that because of his talent, he gained all his possessions. He relies only in his self, thinking he can do all this without the help of others. You know that that is pride and greediness. Greedy people are spoiled with lots of things to be consumed like food. But instead of consuming it, it was stocked in a shelf until became rotten. He buys something that is not necessary and places it in his stockroom and not use it. He did not enjoy what was in his hand. He is good to other people but selfish to his own self. Strangers enjoy his wealth instead of him enjoying it.

This is the fate of man without recognizing God. He just lives until he dies. Life is uncertain; all are going to the same destination: “death”. But when a man recognizes God and the Holy Spirit illuminates him to search for God, it is the true richness of life. Even when a man lacks something, God can always satisfy him the rest of his life. We know that if a man looks for God, like the psalmist said, “I shall not be in want”. So, we must seek God as the One who can provide for us to enjoy this life. He has the power to grant us enjoyment in this life. Whenever we have any provision or blessing, thank Him with a grateful heart. Always give thanks to God, the One who always cares for us.

Reflect

1. Do you want to be rich?

2. Do you like to travel around the world?

3. Are you enjoying what you have?

Remember

If you want satisfaction in life, seek God first and He will take care of you.

Pray

Dear Lord, please always satisfy us with whatever we receive from You. You always know what is best for us. Thank you, Lord for everything. In Jesus' Name. Amen.
