Proverbs That Came from God

Updated: Mar 21, 2022

Scripture Text: Proverbs 1:7

The fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge;

fools despise wisdom and instruction.

Proverbs 1:7

Is there a wise man born already? Or it is still being made? Who is wise? Where did he get his wisdom?

Now, we will start to discuss the book of Proverbs to know the different kinds of wisdom that man can receive or gain by studying the book. In Proverbs 1:7 it says, "The fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge, but fools despise wisdom and discipline." Of course, Solomon is one of the authors of Proverbs where he shares his gained knowledge and wisdom from the Lord. He took long years to have it, while he was still young, with the help of his father, David.

Solomon learned to fear the Lord and know Him.

Knowledge and wisdom are very important in our daily life. It will protect us from harm and will bring blessings if we love to pursue wisdom. Knowledge and wisdom are also power and strength that can help us to achieve our goals in life. Godly wisdom disciplined a man to love the word of God because God is the source of wisdom. By acquiring wisdom, we must believe and trust God that He made wisdom for our benefit if we diligently follow His advice in the book of Proverbs. Like the preacher said in Ecclesiastes 9:18, "Wisdom is better than weapons of war, but one sinner destroys much good". Wisdom is a big help to the one who searches for it.

So why is the beginning of knowledge and wisdom the fear of the Lord? First of all, the Lord has all the wisdom we need to live a godly life because He is the source of all godly wisdom. Second, by fearing the Lord, we value life because it is very complicated to live without fearing God and we become fools; meaning to say, without the guidance of the Lord, everything we think can cause us to fear even the smallest insect. We also fear the unknown things that comes inside our mind. Life is full of fear if we do not fear God. Fearing God means that there is no other being to fear except the one and only God of this universe. If we fear Him, we will recognize His majesty, His amazing power, His awesome being, His beauty, and His wisdom on how He created all, including us man, whom from the start God always loved, protects until the end of our earthly life and for eternity.

That is the God we must fear. Acknowledge His existence in this world around us. Praise God for all He has done and fear Him because He can do impossible things. No one is above Him, that is why we must fear Him.

Reflect

1. Do you fear God?

2. Do you read His words?

3. Do you experience His presence?

Remember

The beginning of knowledge is to fear the Lord. To acknowledge God daily in our life means we accept His goodness, and every grace we gain is from Him.

Dear Lord, I thank You for Your word of wisdom that I receive through reading Your words. Please help me to practice all that I have learned from You so that I may live godly life here on earth. Guide me always by Your presence. In Jesus' Name. Amen.
