Our Straightforward God

Scripture Text: Proverbs 3:33-35

The wise will inherit honor,

but fools get disgrace.

Proverbs 3:35

This passage of Proverbs was about wickedness, mockery, and folly as compared to righteous living, humility, and wise who gains honor. The sinful man deserved curse when he did not cease from his wickedness. The Lord hates the evil doer whose feet rush into sin. Their heart was full of deceitful thoughts and evil was reigning in their heart.

The sinful man created many problems in his own home beginning from his bad attitude, to the attitude of his household, down to his children. There was a cause and effect of what he has done. When the head of the family loves evil, the Lord curses that house of the unjust. The sinful man never follows the Lord's instruction. The curse will not leave the house of the wicked. Like Cain, he belonged to the evil one.

In Genesis, when Cain offered to the Lord, the Lord was not pleased because Cain did not offer the best crops of his field. On the other hand, Abel offered the best of his flock to the Lord and the Lord showed favor for his offering. The Bible says in 1 John 3:12-13 "Do not be like Cain, who belonged to the evil one and murdered his brother. And why did he murder him? Because his own actions were evil and his brother's were righteous. Do not be surprised my brothers, if the world hates you."

That is right—the world hates those who follow Christ and do good deeds. They envy on us for following the rules of the Lord. However, we must be proud to say that the Lord will bless the humble man who does not walk in the counsel of the wicked and sits in the seat of mockers. The wise will also receive honor because the Lord gives wisdom to the humble and to those willing to follow the ways of the Lord.

As Christians, we must listen to the godly advice of Proverbs, like keeping the command of the Lord into our heart. Write them on the tablet of our heart and the Lord will make our paths straight. Proverbs Chapter 3 is good to remember as it is full of wisdom to guide us in holy living. Read them again to gain wisdom.

Reflect

1. Do you live a righteous life?

2. Do you examine your heart if you have an envious feeling?

Remember

The wicked will not prevail in their wickedness; there is a punishment for doing evil. Start your life following the advice of the Lord, then you will receive grace and favor from the Him.
