Listen to the Words of Wisdom

Scripture Text: Proverbs 4:5-6

Get wisdom; get insight; do not forget, and do not turn away from the words of my mouth. Do not forsake her, and she will keep you; love her, and she will guard you.

If you have a listening ability and is slow to speak because you listen carefully, you are a good listener. If you pay attention to the one who speaks, you will gain knowledge. More so, if you do not listen, you are ignoring the important message of the speaker's wisdom.

King Solomon, when he was young, has always listened to his father's voice. David taught his son how to listen to the Lord and fear God. King Solomon got his victory in every situation because he listened to the good advice of the wise. King Solomon had many teachers who brought wisdom to him and his number one and greatest teacher was the Lord, the one who gives true wisdom and understanding.

I remember a young boy, Samuel, when he was called by the Lord three times. When Eli realized that the Lord was calling the boy, he told Samuel, "if he calls you, say, ‘Speak, LORD, for your servant is listening.’” And that's it, the Lord told Samuel about Israel and about Eli's family. When the morning came, Eli told Samuel to tell him the vision and what he heard from the Lord. Samuel was afraid, but he told and never hid the truth about everything the Lord said in the vision. After Eli heard it, he also was a good listener and said "He is the LORD; let him do what is good in his eyes."

We as Christians, where do we find wisdom and understanding? On the internet, on YouTube or Facebook, in books, or on Google? l think social media have some but not lots of wisdom and understanding. l tell you, go to your Bible and you will find a great amount of wisdom that comes only from the Lord. Do you want to be wise? Read the word of God daily to get wisdom and understanding. All you have to do is to listen very carefully to all the instructions of the Lord written in His Book.

The Bible is the Book of Life, like the conclusion of wisdom in Ecclesiastes 9:18: "Wisdom is better than weapons of war, but one sinner destroys much good." Therefore, get wisdom, get understanding. Do not forget God's words nor swerve from them. Wisdom will watch over you.

Reflect

1. Are you a good listener?

2. Do you chase after godly wisdom?

Remember

How to gain wisdom is how you patiently listen to God's instructions, and if you pay attention, you will gain wisdom and understanding.

Read

Pray

Dear Lord, thank You for the blessing to hear and know Your instructions written in the Bible. Help me to meditate it day and night for my spiritual food. Help me also so that I can apply it to my life. This is my prayer, in Jesus' Name. Amen.
