Is There Something New?

Scripture Text: Ecclesiastes 1:9

What has been is what will be,

and what has been done is what will be done,

and there is nothing new under the sun.

Ecclesiastes 1:9

Can we add another color variation in the color wheel? Or, can we add another creature, animals, plant species or even another set of planets in the universe? The author of Ecclesiastes proved to us that there is nothing new under the sun. He carefully observed the works of our Almighty God. He discovered that God created all things — nothing more, nothing less, we cannot add nor subtract because God is a perfect God. However, Solomon’s mind became skeptic against what he observed. He came to the point that “everything is meaningless” because of his finite mind against the infinite mind of God.

To Solomon, all things cannot satisfy our cravings in life. We cannot overpower the works of God to add something new, perhaps it is chasing after the wind. He was tired of repetition, no gain, no profit, nothing can be added. However, even if this was his attitude about life, at last, he found one thing, that there is GOD. This remarkable Creator blew his mind, so he fears HIM because of His indescribable power to make this universe. The uniqueness of His creation and His incredible knowledge to bring people to learn to fear Him. Solomon after all proved that God is a great God and there is no one above Him. Let us fear and love our God because He is the Creator of everything.

Reflect

1. Who satisfies you?

2. What are the things that inspire you?

3. Are you being ever enough of everything?

Remember

Do not rely on the things of the world that cannot satisfy you. Instead, look to God, the Creator of everything.

Read

Revelation 21:1-10; Ecclesiastes 12:1- 14; Psalm 33:1-22, Proverbs 15:30

Pray

Dear God, I know everything that is in this world is temporary. Please help me not to cling on these. I need your guidance and your protection. You are the only one who can satisfy me. Teach me to put all my trust in You, my Lord and my Savior. In Jesus' Name, amen.
