Is Our Fate the Same?

Scripture Text: Ecclesiastes 3:18-22

For what happens to the children of man and what happens to the beasts is the same; as one dies, so dies the other. They all have the same breath, and man has no advantage over the beasts, for all is vanity.

Ecclesiastes 3:19

Every visual artist produced many kinds of artwork, and they have also created the best artwork they ever made, that is called their “masterpiece”. They treasured it, took care of it, because it gave them fame and they received honor from it.

If an artist creates a beautiful masterpiece, our God the Creator of everything—the “True Master”—created “man”, as His unique masterpiece of all creation, and it is for His glory. Man is created in His own image and likeness. Again, the author was skeptical about the fate of both men and animals. I agree that when it comes to physical aspect, both men and animals die. The same place, all came from dust and to dust all return. That is true, but not the same fate when it comes to spiritual aspect, because God set eternity in man’s heart, and when the person dies, his spirit will go under the control of God, while the body and spirit of the animals will go down into extinction.

There are big differences between a person and an animal. Animals only have their instinct to live and have a limited brain capacity to think and is built for their special purposes. On the other hand, a person is a special creation of God, created with intelligence, emotion, conscience, wisdom, and other faculties to be used to look for God, to do his will, follow His commands, and be His children. Man was created with a purpose to have dominion over all creation.

Man is the highest creation God ever made. A wonderful masterpiece that bears the image and likeness of the Creator. Man is more blessed because God chose him to be head of all creation.

Reflect

1. What is your goal in life?

2. Before you die, what are the things you must do?

3. Have you searched for God?

Remember

We are created in God’s image and likeness, so allow God to be our Master and surrender our will to Him.

Read

Ecclesiastes 12:6-8; Hebrews 12:7-12; Genesis 1:26-31; Revelations 22:12-16

Pray

Dear Lord, always guide our body and spirit to do Your will in our life. Protect us from harming people with vain words and wrong deeds. As You give us wisdom, may we use this for all Your glory. This we ask in the Name of Jesus Christ, amen.
