Influence of a Good Teacher

Scripture Text: Ecclesiastes 12:9-12

The words of the wise are like goads, and like nails firmly fixed are the collected sayings; they are given by one Shepherd.

Ecclesiastes 9:11

It is great to have a good teacher, a mentor who teaches his experience in life. I remember when l was young, my grandfather taught me how to fix things, because he was a carpenter. He was not well-educated, but when it comes to practical things, he was excellent. I thank him because he shared and taught me his skill and experience.

The author of Ecclesiastes was a wise teacher who reminded us that without God, life is meaningless. He also imparted knowledge about right living. He tests the proverbs if they are true. So, where did he get all of these from? It comes from our God, the source of everything.

There was a time when a good teacher, Jesus Christ, walked on earth and mentored His disciples to learn the knowledge about God. Remember the beatitudes, that blessed are those who are pure in heart for they will see God. Those disciples who followed Christ witnessed God in person and that was amazing. Jesus imparted knowledge about God for three years. He taught them how to follow God and be His disciples, and later on they will become a teacher too, who will also teach the goodness of God to others. This goodness of Christ offers salvation to mankind.

Today, not only the author of Ecclesiastes and the ancient disciples were taught by Christ, we also have the full revelation of the word of God. As His followers, we are obligated to study it and apply it into our lives. When a believer submits to the word of God, he is doing the right thing and he also fulfills his purpose in life.

Today, many people do not know how to live a godly life. As believers of Christ Jesus, we should represent the kind of life based on what the word of God teaches us. As a believer, we need God as He sustains our earthly life and our spiritual life. Our daily life should also represent God to our neighbors, therefore, our neighbor must see that God lives in us. The way we live is the living proof that God is our Master and our Lord. We obey His command and we proclaim His offered salvation to those who are called to be sons of God. Remember, the word of the wise are like goads, it is firm and trustworthy because it is given by God.

Reflect

1. Do you have a mentor?

2. Have you found a Christian teacher to imitate?

3. Do you read your Bible daily?

Remember

The influence of a good teacher is precious, but the source of teaching that comes from God is priceless. Always consult the word of God to become wise. God will always give us godly wisdom to practice.

Pray

Lord, thank You for the wisdom I got from Your words. Be with me always as I proclaim Your word to others. Guide my life to have a righteous living to be seen by the world and as I give You honor in my life. Thank You, Lord. This I pray, in Jesus' Name. Amen.
