Guiding Yourself with Wisdom

Updated: Aug 30, 2022

Scripture Text: Proverbs 4:11

I have taught you the way of wisdom;

I have led you in the paths of uprightness.

Proverbs 4:11

Which is the right way and straight path? You are blessed if you have a father who leads you along the straight path of life and teaches you the right way, and his teaching being directly straight forward in the Bible. I tell you, you are so blessed if you have a father like this.

I remember Paul and Timothy, even though they were not father and son biologically, Paul treated Timothy as a source of joy for being a son to him. He taught Timothy all he knew about God. He commended Timothy as his own son. When we read Philippians 3:19-22, it says, "I hope in the Lord Jesus to send Timothy to you soon, that l also may be cheered when l receive news about you. I have no one else like him, who takes a genuine interest in your welfare. For everyone looks out for his own interest, not those of Jesus Christ. But you know that Timothy had proved himself, because as a son with his father he had served with me in the work of the gospel."

Paul finds Timothy a good son who obeys the teaching of the Lord Jesus Christ in his way of life, purpose, faith, patience, love, endurance, persecution, and suffering—all of these when Paul taught Timothy. Timothy acknowledged Paul as his father who leads him in the right way of life, a straight path, walking in the way of the Lord. The advice of Paul to young Tomothy is this: flee the evil desire of youth and pursue righteousness, faith, love, and peace along with those who call on the Lord out of pure heart. Paul teaches Timothy to be a good man of God, to do kindness to everyone, able to teach and not resentful. He must set an example to the believers in speech, in life, in love, in faith, and in purity. Paul instructed Timothy to devote himself to the public reading of Scripture, to preach and to teach others.

So as Christians, we must choose the right way and straight path close to God, because it will bring a better life. The instruction of the Lord is that we must be obey so that the path of righteous will be like the first gleam of the dawn, shining ever brighter till the full light of day.

Reflect

1. Who leads you in the path of righteuosness? 2. Do you walk in the way of the Lord?

Remember

By guiding yourself with wisdom, our life will bring goodness to us. It will serve as an instruction as the Lord teaches us like our father who teaches his children. This is the way of wisdom.

Read

Pray

Dear Lord, thank You for Your kindness to me, like a father to his children. Guide me with Your words and help me to gain more wisdom from You. Help me to apply it to my life. In Jesus' Name. Amen.
