Godly Wisdom

Scripture Text: Ecclesiastes 1:18

For in much wisdom is much vexation,

and he who increases knowledge increases sorrow.

Ecclesiastes 1:18

There are so many skills to learn for one to get wisdom. When we were young, we like to learn more about something, things that catch our interest, like how we want to play musical instruments, we have fun in learning how to draw, we study something that can satisfy our habits. We are hungry and thirsty to learn more and more to gain it all.

Do you have fun in reading a lot of books? Are you a bookworm? If you are, you thirst for wisdom. Books supply knowledge and wisdom. Solomon did that, he gathered all these wisdom under the sun. He tried everything that he wished for. After his endeavor to find wisdom of this world, he attained nothing. He again concluded that gaining wisdom of this world is “meaningless”. What did he mean? He said much study wearies the body. So, Solomon was weary and exhausted. He said to himself, “why did I waste my time in these things, it is chasing after the wind”. Then, after that sorrow and grief, he found God, the source of wisdom who filled his heart with gladness. He delights to follow the Word of God in his life. He gained fulfillment of his quest for the real wisdom that is the Word of God – the true wisdom can satisfy our heart and mind who fears the Lord.

Reflect

  1. What do you want to read?

  2. Do you read your Bible?

  3. How can you have wisdom that makes you content?

Remember

After you gathered the wisdom of this world, make sure to not forget to study the wisdom that comes from the Word of God. Apply it to your life.

Read

1 Kings 4:29-34; Proverbs 2:6; Psalm 90:12; Jeremiah 10:11-12

Pray

Lord, I want Your words to shape my life, to learn Your wisdom and knowledge and to apply it in my daily life. Guide me, oh Lord, with Your presence to have a habit to study and read Your words. In Jesus’ Name, amen.
