Give Reward to the Deserving

Updated: Jun 24, 2022

Scripture Text: Proverbs 3:27-28

Do not withhold good from those to whom it is due,

when it is in your power to do it.

Proverbs 3:27

We have a culture of sharing. Do you mind to give reward to the one who deserves it? Doing good to others, especially to those in need, is a privilege.

I remember when I lived in the province of my grandfather, our neighbors were very observant when it comes to sharing food. It was true that when our neighbors prepared a tasty food, they always handed out some portions of that tasty food for my grandfather and us to enjoy. The same is true with my grandmother when she cooked a dish; if we have plenty enough to share, we also give to our neighbor. However, we do not practice that tradition frequently anymore because we are living a separate life.

The Book of Proverbs insists to not withhold good from others, especially to our close neighbors. One of the classic examples of this sharing is found in 2 Corinthians 8:1-5; the Macedonian churches shared their contribution even if they were facing severe trials and extreme poverty. They were willing to give generously. This was a service to the saints, they have a power to act and help those in need, especially the fellow believers in Christ.

Our Lord Jesus Christ did not and will not withhold good from us. If He gave His life for us, what more can He not give to us? Christ will give us everything according to His will. As a disciple of Christ, we must also be compassionate to those who need help. If we knew that we have the answer to their problem, do not withhold it but give it to them. If they need some money and we can afford, give them. Once our neighbor comes to us and asks for help, they count on us; let us not withhold good from them.

Discerning is very important. We have to recognize the true situation of others. Learn from Apostle Paul in Acts 20:35: "ln everything l did, l showed you that by this kind of hard work we must help the weak." Remembering the word of the Lord Jesus Himself, "lt is more blessed to give than to receive." So as Christians, we must share our blessings to others.

Reflect

1. Do you give to the needy?

2. Are you discerning of the needs of your neighbors?

Remember

Do not withhold good to those in need because the Lord has given us grace so that in all things, at all times, having all that you can share, you will abound in every good work.

Pray

Dear Lord, I thank You for all the blessings I received that comes only from You. Let me share it to my brothers and sisters and to all the people who are in need. May I bless them spiritually and physically by Your love. This I pray, in Jesus' Name. Amen.
