Food for the Righteous One

Scripture Text: Proverbs 10:3

The Lord does not let the righteous go hungry,

but he thwarts the craving of the wicked.

Proverbs 10:3

Was there a time in your life where you suffered from hunger because you have no money to buy food to eat? I guess you never experienced that unless you are not a believer who has no faith in God. The Lord will never forsake His children because God will always provide for His beloved. Maybe you will go hungry because you skip a meal or you are in the mode of fasting, but never hungry at all.

The proverb says "that the righteous never go hungry because the Lord provides food to eat for those who do his will." Remember Elijah the Tishbite, when he proclaimed the will of the Lord that there will be neither dew nor rain in the next few years, except the Lord commanded that Elijah will never go hungry at that time. When there was no rain, there was no food produced, but the Lord fed him and gave him drink from the brook. The Lord can order the ravens to bring him bread and meat in the morning and evening and he drank from the brook. However, when the brook dried up because there had been no rain in the land, Elijah went at once to Zarephath of Sidon and stayed there. The Lord said He commanded a widow in that place to supply him for food to eat ,and the widow fed Elijah without doubt because she believes in the word of Elijah that the Lord will provide. The jar of the flour will never be used up and the jug of oil will never run dry until the day the Lord gives rain on the land. We have to think, look, and learn from the Lord—the One who can provide food for all His creation. The source of food, our Lord.

There are some food wasted when it is not properly distributed. Like in other countries, they used to waste tons of tomatoes, potatoes, apples, berries, poultry, and more by using it for fun. They throw food to their face just for fun then the next day, they have again plenty of that food they wasted. The Lord keeps the leftover food for consumption. He does not want to waste it because of plenty supply, He wants to satisfy His creature until they realized that the Lord is the source of everything.

The Lord does not let the righteous go hungry because He wants to prove His amazing provision and unconditional love for all His people. People who are righteous by His grace will never go hungry but the wicked craving will be thwarted. l remember King David said in his psalm that goes, "l was young and now l am old, yet l have never seen the righteous forsaken or their children begging bread." This is how the Lord blesses the righteous one, even His children will benefit from it when the righteous follow the Lord's will.

So we must trust the Lord and imitate His righteousness, do not follow the craving of the wicked. Just trust God who never forsakes His loved one and that is us.

Reflect

1. Do you have plenty of food to eat?

2. Do you practice righteousness in your life?

Remember

Our Lord will protect and provide food for the righteous no matter what happens because He is the source and provider of everything we need.
