Equal Opportunity to All

Scripture Text: Ecclesiastes 9:11-12

Again I saw that under the sun the race is not to the swift, nor the battle to the strong, nor bread to the wise, nor riches to the intelligent, nor favor to those with knowledge, but time and chance happen to them all.

Ecclesiastes 9:11

Almost everybody in the world has a chance to go to school even at least in grade school level. Some are fortunate or destined to study up to college. Our parents want us to pursue our schooling because for them, it is an accomplishment to be made. When they were able have their children go through school, they are too proud to brag about that, that their children have already finished their studies and have graduated from college.

The author says that all human being has equal opportunity to live, to learn, and to be successful in life. Why are others not successful even if they are swift, strong, wise and brilliant, or others had favor to learn? Like the author said, time and chance happen to them all. How? Because of two reasons to choose. There is an opportunity but no time to take it, because they are trapped by evil times.

Opportunity or chance is offered to all, some grab it and some lose it. There was a time to study at a very young age but others rejected to study because they were trapped by the evil times. However, others, even if they did not finish schooling, are successful because there is a chance for self-improvement—they are talented, capable, and they use their ability to be successful. For some, even if they have favor and are more learned than the others, there is still failure in their part because they are trapped by evil times. This is very sad to think about.

Now if you want to be successful in life even when time and chance is unexpected, then you must have a relationship with God who does not get affected by time and chance. If a man has an intimate relationship with God, he is blessed whether in good times or bad because God is his treasure and the one he trusts in his life. His whole being is dependent on God. He fully trusts God for whatever the will of God is to him. That is the true success in life. Find God first and He will make your path straight, doing his will and pleasing him at all times. The author of Ecclesiastes found God. He is the source of every opportunity.

Reflect

1. Do you grab every opportunity that comes to you?

2. Are you wasting time or not?

3. How successful are you?

Remember

God always offers opportunity to all through His common grace. Time and chance is always given when you learn and see the proper way to do it.

Lord, thank You for all the opportunities that You have given us. Always guide us for unexpected the times, whether good or bad. You are the one we trust in every circumstance in our lives. In Jesus' Name. Amen.
