Celebrate at a Proper Time

Scripture Text: Ecclesiastes 10:16-17

Woe to you, O land, when your king is a child,

and your princes feast in the morning!

Happy are you, O land, when your king is the son of the nobility,

and your princes feast at the proper time,

for strength, and not for drunkenness!

Ecclesiastes 10:16-17

We are people full of celebration. We celebrate our birthdays every year, we have thanksgiving, we attend weddings, parties, and anything that we think that can we celebrate. We also celebrate even our pet's birthday. Yes, we can celebrate all these occasions, but in a proper time frame, because feasting frequently is not advisable. There are important events and those that are not so important. We have to think wisely when we celebrate and when is the proper time to do it.

The author compared two kings, one was a servant and the other was a king of noble birth. Their thinking was also different when they celebrate victory. There is a story in the Old Testament when the king was obsessed in wrongdoings. 1 Kings 14: 22-23 says, "Judah did evil in the eyes of the Lord. By the sins they committed they stirred up his jealous anger more than those who were before them had done. They also set up for themselves high places, sacred stones and Asherah poles on every high hill and under every spreading tree." These kings celebrate their wrongdoings and their princes feast in the morning.

The author of Ecclesiastes said, "woe to you" to those kings of the land who thinks like a servant, who always does wrong and feasts in the wrong time. However, blessed are those kings and princes who knows when to celebrate a victory, not for drunkenness, but for their strength and celebrate it at a proper time.

We also must think about what victory we will celebrate, and the victory that we must always celebrate is the victory of our Lord Jesus Christ on the cross. We are His sons and daughters who celebrate at a proper time. To give victory and praise to the King of kings, our Lord Jesus Christ, let us worship Him with all of our hearts.

Reflect

1. How long do you prepare to celebrate an occasion?

2. What do you think is a proper time to celebrate?

3. Do you wait for the Lord or do you do it by yourself to make a decision to celebrate?

Remember

There is always a proper time for everything, so do not celebrate drunkenness, but for the strength to give glory to the Lord.

Pray

We pray to You Lord, to help us to decide when is a proper time to celebrate. Give us Your provisions to all our needs and let us celebrate with You and bless us always. This I pray in Jesus' Name. Amen.
