Calmness Can Cure Us

Updated: Nov 16, 2021

Scripture Text: Ecclesiastes 10:4

If the anger of the ruler rises against you, do not leave your place, for calmness will lay great offenses to rest.

Ecclesiastes 10:4

There are times when we have some good ideas to suggest but the decision whether to accept it or not, is not on us. One of the bad habits of us is when we insist like this" this is what you are going to do”,” take this advice it will work”, although you notice it that is not good enough and there is a room for improvement. We always choose a mediocre type of plan; however, we can also do the best one.

In the concept of the business world, there is a leader who leads and gives order towards their employees. From the point of view of an employee, sometimes you ignore the plan of your leader and tend to do things in your own ways. But when things go wrong, that is the time that you realize that your insisted plan is not a good one. How can we avoid this and reconcile with our leader? It is simple, first is to obey the plan then if there is a weakness about it, now it is the chance to make suggestions to change, or to improve some of the strategies. With this kind of partnership, we can accomplish the task.

On the other hand, what if you insist on doing your idea then again didn’t consult the approval of the leader then at the end it created a big mistake. Your idea falls, the people around you blame and express their anger at you. What is the solution of the author in this case? He said that “When ruler's anger rises against you, do not leave your post because calmness can overcome great errors to rest”. All you have to do is to make an apology and then fix what you can fix. Stay calm until you find a better solution. We always experience mistakes but these mistakes teach us not to do it again. Be humble to admit your mistake, stay calm, do not leave your post later on it will go well again. Just like King David when he got into trouble with an indecent relationship with Bathsheba his reputation as a king was at stake. Also when Natan, the prophet, rebuked him by doing evil in the eyes of the Lord he received curse instead of blessing. David stayed calm and he never quit his position as king, he admitted his mistake that he sinned against God. He sincerely regrets his sin and truly repents for his mistake. So David trusts God that he will receive forgiveness from his sin. He knew the Lord would forgive him for his big mistake.

Reflect

1.Do you try to stay quiet when you have done wrong?

2.Do you fix the problem on your own?

3.Do you learn from your mistake?

Remember

If someone hates you for making bad decisions, stay calm and think of a solution instead of getting angry at your leader. Remain calm.

Pray

Dear Lord, please give us calmness in the midst of anger. We should not let anger prevail help us Oh Lord, teach us to apologize, to be humble and to give forgiveness. Thank you Lord God. This is our prayer, in Jesus' Name. Amen.
