Absolute Wisdom

Scripture Text: Proverbs 4:7-9

The beginning of wisdom is this: Get wisdom,

and whatever you get, get insight.

Proverbs 4:7

How can we gain the highest wisdom? In any field of study, we can gain philosophy—a system that creates wisdom. But is that an absolute wisdom? No, for there is no higher wisdom than that of the wisdom from God.

Many of us know and master the different arts of philosophy, but we forget to study theology of God's Word. Some of us spend more money to study in well-known universities. Others can afford to study abroad, but the question is, do we really have an absolute wisdom?

I remember Daniel, God gave him knowledge and understanding. He can understand all kinds of literature and learning. Daniel also could understand vision and dreams of all kinds. Daniel's wisdom did not come from human effort, but it came from God. Daniel came from a royal family and nobility, a young man without physical defect, handsome, showing aptitude for every kind of learning, well-informed, quick to understand, and qualified to serve in the king's palace.

When they were in Babylon, Daniel decided not to defile himself with the royal food and wine, with the guidance of the Lord as this was offered by the king to pagan gods. For Daniel, it is not good to take it because he knows that it is bad for his health. He requested to eat only vegetables and water for food.

When the years passed, King Belshazzar gave a great banquet. They celebrated pagan worship with their gods and suddenly a finger of human hand appeared and wrote on the plaster of the wall. The king ordered to all enchanters, magicians, and astrologers that whoever reads the writting and tells what is its meaning will be clothed in purple and have gold chain placed around his neck and he will be made the third highest ruler in the kingdom. Daniel was the one who can read and interpret the writting because God gave him supreme wisdom. When King Belshazzar heard the meaning, he rewarded Daniel with purple cloth; a gold chain was placed around his neck and he was proclaimed the third highest ruler in the kingdom.

Therefore, we as Christians must also desire to have a wisdom that only comes from God to apply it in our daily life. Get wisdom and pray for godly wisdom.

Reflect

1. Are you aware that you need to have a godly wisdom? 2. Do you search the Scripture to find wisdom?

Remember

True wisdom will reward you, embrace it, and the reward and honor will be remarkable.

Read

Daniel 1:1-21, 5:1-30; Matthew 6:19-24; Psalm 84:1-12

Pray

Thank You, Lord, for this wonderful wisdom that only comes from You. Help me to gain godly wisdom that I may apply it in my life. This I pray, in Jesus' Name. Amen.
