True Happiness in Jesus

Scripture Text: John 4:13-14

Jesus said to her, “Everyone who drinks of this water will be thirsty again, but whoever drinks of the water that I will give him will never be thirsty again. The water that I will give him will become in him a spring of water welling up to eternal life.”

John 4:13-14

All people want to be happy, so we tell ourselves, "if I got this and that, I'll be more happy and live with security." But the reality you will find is, that is not the guarantee. Because when you look into biographies of many known personalities who had gotten everything that we wish for in life, or even those we knew, their lives are still miserable and empty. Many of them even commit suicide and leave devastations in their families.

You know friends, the truth is because we are created by God, He knows what is missing in us. It is Him. We need to be connected to Him so He can fill what is lacking in us.

The saying is very true, "There is a vacuum in a man's heart that only God can fill."

Like the Samaritan woman in our passage, we can see that in her search for real happiness, she was willing to have one relationship after another. She was also willing to be an adulterer because she said that even the fifth man she was now living with was not her husband. Jesus, knowing her real problem, was intentionally passing by that city to see and talk to her and introduce Himself and that He gives real happiness to anyone He wants to because He is the Messiah. He told the woman, "Every one who drinks of this water will be thirsty again, but whoever drinks of the water that I will give will never be thirsty again. The water that I will give him will become in him a spring of water welling up to eternal life." The woman was somewhat an outcast because she went to the well alone (not normal at the time, as a woman always goes with companion). She goes to the well alone, maybe because of her living.

This encounter of the Samaritan woman with Jesus was amazing that she left her valued things at the well to tell about the Lord to the people in the city.

You see, when we go to Jesus and find that true happiness, we cannot contain it so we'll tell others to see Jesus also. And that is good! We should tell the world about Him.

Reflect

1. Are you looking for true happiness?

2. Did you try coming to Jesus for it?

3. What are your hindrances from coming to Jesus?

4. Now that you know there is true happiness in Jesus, will you tell others also?

Remember

Only in Jesus can we find true happiness, don't cover it with counterfeit things—your life will be miserable.

Pray

Father I thank You, because You have created me to enjoy You and the true happiness You gave me. It is You now that I want. This world will offer many false happiness, but in You alone will I get the real one. So help me share this to others. These I pray in Your most precious Name my Lord, my Jesus. Amen.
