Jesus Will Return to Bring Us Home

Scripture Text: John 14:3

And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and will take you to myself, that where I am you may be also.

John 14:3

Jesus informed His disciples that He would be departing, but assured them that He was going to make a special place for them in His Father's house. This news unsettled the devoted group who had forsaken everything to follow Him, as they found the idea of being separated from Him quite shocking.

They recognized Jesus as the Messiah of Israel and believed that He would soon establish the long-awaited kingdom of God. Jesus not only sought to give them every reassurance that His departure would be for the best, but He wanted to nurture an ever-deepening trust in Him and His Word, just as they had a trust in His Heavenly Father and His Word.

Jesus was aware that he would soon sacrifice himself on the Cross to atone for their sins, and that he was the sole Mediator between God and humanity, as no one could come to the Father except through him.

'There is no need to worry,' were His reassuring words. 'Since I'm going away to prepare a place for you in my Father's house, it means that I am going to come back again for you so that I can welcome you into My presence in glory—and then you will be with Me forever.' Christ's condition for leaving was that He was also returning.

It has been 2000 years since Jesus made this promise to his disciples, and from a human perspective, it may seem like a long time, but in God's economy, Jesus has only been away two days, for a thousand years in God's economy is just one day. Christ is preparing a heavenly home for all that are His and one day, He is coming back again to welcome us into His presence so that where He is, we may be also.

Reflect

1. Are you waiting for his return?

2. What are you doing now so He can find you faithful when He comes back?

3. Are you excited that someday our Savior will bring us to our final home?

Remember

What a comfort to know that soon and very soon, Jesus will be coming back for His Bride. How we long for that day when we will see Him face to face and be with Him for eternity. Let us occupy until He comes and tell all who may listen to the glorious truth of the gospel so that more can be part of His Bride, welcomed into His presence, and always be with Him.

Pray

Loving Father, thank You for Jesus. How wonderful to know that one day He is returning to take me to be with Himself, forever. Thank You for Your many reassurances which are 'yes' and 'amen' in Him. I trust Your Word, for You are my faithful and true heavenly Father. In Jesus' name I pray. AMEN.
