Heaven is Our Place

Scripture Text: John 14:2

Jesus came to heal the broken-hearted, to set the captives free, to cause the lame to walk again, and to make the blind to see. He also came to comfort the sorrowing heart and to calm the grieving, confused soul. And what reassurance must have been shed abroad in the hearts of His disciples when they heard these time-shattering words for the first time: "There are many rooms in my Father's house." - If there weren't, I wouldn't have told you that I am going away to prepare a place for you, would I?

Christ's little band of followers knew that something shocking yet stupendous was in the air, but they did not understand. They were about to face the most traumatic few hours in the history of the universe, when the Son of God and Son of Man willingly spread wide His arms of love to embrace whosoever will with His everlasting forgiveness, and crown all who would believe on His name with His gift of life eternal - His own, righteous Life in exchange for our sad, sinful lives.

The disciples had heard what the Saviour said, but their logical, human understanding could not discern what He meant. They had heard that the Son of Man must be lifted up and suffer many things, and yet they knew thato this was the Messiah of Israel who had come from God to set up His kingdom - the kingdom that the Jewish nation had been promised so many years before.

Trust Me! I am Your God and Saviour. Trust what I say and trust all that I tell you, was what He wanted them to understand. I may be going away for a brief time, but there is a reason. I am going to prepare a place in my Father’s heavenly kingdom, just for you. There are many mansions in my Father’s heavenly home and because I love you, I am going to prepare a place, especially for you. Don’t you trust me? Do you think I would not have told you these things if they were not true?

For 3 years, Jesus had taught His followers that He alone is the way to the Father, His Word is true, and in Him is eternal life.

Reflect

1. How sure are you that you will be in heaven?

2. What is the reason why someone can be in the place of Jesus someday?

3. Have you treated Him as Lord and Savior?

Remember

Like the disciples, we may be broken-hearted, lost, blind, or sorrowing, and we may not understand, but God's Word is as true today as it was 2000 years ago and remember, it was Jesus that said, "In my Father's house are many mansions: if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for YOU."

Pray

Loving Heavenly Father, thank You that I am Your child and that the Lord Jesus is at this very moment, preparing a place for me in the heavenly Jerusalem. Hasten the day when I will be with You forever, in Your house. Oh happy day! Thank You, in Jesus' name, AMEN.
