To Take What is His

Scripture Text: 1 Thessalonians 5:4-5

For you are all children of light, children of the day. We are not of the night or of the darkness.

1 Thessalonians 5:5

As the Book of Thessalonians continues to speak about the second coming of the Lord Jesus Christ, it also defined what we are to expect when the glorious coming of our Lord Jesus Christ finally arrives. Moreover, as this book anticipated the second coming of Jesus Christ, Apostle Paul set our expectation about the two-sided effect when He will return to those who are in Christ and to those who are not in Him.

Furthermore, Christ's coming is depicted as a thief coming to our house in the night, a thief that will rob our house without our knowledge, which means Christ will come in an unexpected hour and only the Trinitarian Council knows when He will return.

Nowadays, people of this world are assured of their peace and protection, assured that nothing will happen to them. But when tribulation comes, it will surely bring chaos to this world. In the same way, it is compared to a laboring mother, a pain that is unbearable, but a birth of hope—that is when Jesus Christ returns.

Consequently, we might be alive or not when the Great Tribulation begins, but certainly it will come and we are expected to experience hardship. On the other hand, we are more than prepared for this because the Bible gave us enough precaution that this will definitely happen.

Apostle Paul wanted us to be extra vigilant during this time, knowing that anytime, Christ will come again and every eye will see Him and know that He is the Messiah, the Promised One.

Therefore, instead of focusing on the pain that is to come, we should look forward to these days. For sure, our Lord Jesus Christ will return and He will redeem His people. He will return to save His people and to punish those who are not His. This is the comfort and the hope that we have in Jesus Christ. He will surely fulfill His promise to us.

Reflect

1. After you have heard that Christ will return, do you feel fear or excitement?

2. Are you ready to face Jesus Christ on His second coming?

Remember

Those people who are afraid of this day are the unbelievers. But since we have a relationship with Jesus Christ, it should be the most anticipated day of our lives. This is the hope that we are dearly holding.

Pray

I pray to You, my Holy Father, seeking for Your mercy to remember me when You return. You are my only Savior, my only hope. I beg that You give me a heart that yearns and longs for You. A heart that will see past through the struggle, but is looking forward to Your return.
