The Truth is Christ

Scripture Text: 2 Peter 1:16-21

For when he received honor and glory from God the Father, and the voice was borne to him by the Majestic Glory, “This is my beloved Son,[a] with whom I am well pleased,”

2 Peter 1:17

The importance of an eyewitness during an event is significant, all the more when cameras were not yet invented. The fact that there are eyewitnesses and writings about Christ, His life, and works validates the fact that Christ did exist in the history of mankind. The birth, life, and death of our Lord Jesus are not hearsay but facts supported by evidence. Not just His existence, but even the prophecies and the eyewitnesses who saw and experienced them testified that Jesus is the Son of God.

Apostle Peter gave assurance to the believers of Christ regarding the power of Jesus which the apostles are proclaiming. The miracles, the life, and the resurrection of Christ were not just well-organized lies or speculations, but they were witnessed firsthand by the apostles. That's why Apostle Peter wrote after seeing with his naked eye Moses and Elijah and hearing the voice of the Father affirming Christ's identity as His beloved Son. This experience was surreal for Peter and reinforced his faith in Jesus, which he passionately shared with others.

It is indeed a blessing to witness such an awe-striking experience, but Peter's belief does not solely rely on his experience to validate that Christ is the Son of God and the Messiah. It also relies on the fact that the scripture itself, specifically the prophetic word, points out Jesus as he witnesses the unveiling of the prophecy in the scripture one by one. Reaffirming that the person he believes in is Jesus Christ, the Son of the living God.

Then Peter proceeded with reinforcing the fact that the prophecy pointing out to Christ is not a made-up story by human authors, but rather they were inspired by the Holy Spirit, which led them to write the prophecy that came from God. This assures us that the scripture we are reading, specifically the prophecy, is surely true and holy.

It is surely a joy for a believer to see Jesus Christ with our naked eyes. What a majestic sight for us to see the Lord who saved us and loved us. It is indeed the apostle's privilege, but we who didn't see Christ firsthand are blessed too because even though we didn't see Jesus, the gift of faith was given to us, which is why we believe and follow him. We are all looking forward to seeing the truth, Jesus Christ, and being with Him forevermore. This is why we are reminded to live our lives according to His will because it is our duty as we wait upon the Lord and see what the apostles have already seen.

Reflect

1. Do you truly believe the authenticity of the scripture that is pointing out to Christ as the Messiah?

2. Do you fully believe that Jesus is the Son of God, which the apostles testify as they have seen with their own eyes and heard with their ears?

Remember

Christ is the Son of the living God. He existed, and all the prophecies of the upcoming messiah during the old points out to Him. He is the heir of all things and will come back again and will reign with those who truly believe.

Pray

Our heavenly Father, we're thankful for Your Word. Help us to grasp the depth of Your love and the revelation of Your Son, Jesus Christ. Enlighten our minds with Your wisdom, guiding us to understand and live by Your teachings.

Empower us to live out Your will in the Scripture. May Your Word not only transform us but also inspire others to seek Your presence and encounter the life-changing impact of Your love. In Jesus' name. Amen.
