The Holy God Who Tempts None

Scripture Text: James 1:13-18

Do not be deceived, my beloved brothers. Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of lights, with whom there is no variation or shadow due to change.

James 1:16-17

There is no evil thing that came from a holy and good God. People in this generation contest this truth knowing that God is the Creator of all things and even Christians are getting confused to the point that we are forgetting that above anything else, our God is good and holy.

Above the fact that this passage talks about temptation, this speaks about our God's goodness, holiness, and His unchangeable attribute.

Each time we are being tempted, firstly, it is because of our selfish and sinful desires of the flesh. Temptations are never associated to God. Imagine if God can be tempted and will tempt us, His holiness and His faithfulness, which is the attribute that we rely on, will be questionable. However, because our God is not like any carved images or made idols, we can rely on Him completely that He only wills what is good for us.

Our desire to do sin is causing us to be tempted, knowing that we have the capacity to give in to the temptation. Whatever that is enticing us that is pleasurable that'll take us out from the will of God is temptation and should be avoided at all costs. We must hold on to the word, satisfaction, and promises of God during these times that we are being tempted.

Sin has caused man's fall, and sin is a repeated cycle. From the old and up to now, people are being tricked and lured continuously because we give in to our fleshly pleasures rather than find satisfaction in Christ alone.

Every time we are being tempted, it should always remind us that it is not from God, because God only gives us what is from above—what is holy, acceptable and perfect.

This ends up reminding us that it was His Spirit, through His word, that we were forgiven and reconciled with our Father. So, it is only appropriate for us to seek and find satisfaction in Christ whom the holy and righteous God gave to redeem us from our sins.

Reflect

1. Our hearts are the root cause of these temptations. Do you continually watch and pray as Christ said, so you will not fall into temptation?

2. When our hearts are not satisfied with Christ, it looks for satisfaction from something or someone else. What satisfies us?

Remember

Our God is Holy and anything that is not holy is against His will. We should watch ourselves because at the end of the day, our God already freed us from our sin and it is our choice every time that we are giving in to sin.

Pray

I pray to the Holy Father whose righteousness and holiness can't be described with words. I pray and beg that You continually satisfy me with Your love. Change my heart to a heart of flesh, so I may hear Your words and obey it in love. Teach me to find satisfaction in You alone for I know I will not find it in anything else.
