No Man Ever Spoke Like This!

Scripture Text: John 7:45-52

The officers answered, “No one ever spoke like this man!”

John 7:46

The officers answered very honestly and uprightly, without making use of shifts and excuses to the Pharisees. They could not find Jesus nor come to Him because of the multitude around Him. They were afraid of the people, that they would rise upon them and stone them, and rescue Jesus. This would have carried a show of probability, and have brought them off, but they tell the naked truth.

There was never a man who spoke like this man—not Moses, the spokesman of the people of Israel, neither David, the anointed of the God of Jacob, the sweet Psalmist of Israel, nor Solomon, the wisest of men; even the sublime and evangelical prophet Isaiah or any of the other prophets. Also, not John the Baptist, the forerunner, the voice of one crying in the wilderness. No one spoke words in the manner Jesus did, such gracious words were used to express the doctrines of grace in a way to fully express the grace of God which every person should be grateful for—the free justification of His righteousness, full pardon by His blood, peace and reconciliation of His sacrifice, the liberty from the bondage of sin, Sat

an, and the law, and the spiritual and eternal salvation through Him. No one spoke such words of truth, as He who is full of truth, and He Himself is truth; even the word of wisdom, who is the wisdom of God, whom the spirit of wisdom rested, and whom the treasures of wisdom and knowledge are all hidden.

Furthermore, no one ever spoke such wholesome and salutary words that nourish up unto eternal life. Words that are so apt and pertinent, with propriety, beauty, gracefulness, authority, power and efficacy, which could have charmed the ear, affected the heart, convicted and enlightened the understanding of these men. In this way, through Jesus Christ's excellency and charming manner, the officers could not find in their hearts to use any violence or bring Jesus Christ in trouble or in danger.

Hence, no man spoke in the form and manner as Jesus Christ did.

Reflect

1. Do you always listen to the word of our Lord Jesus?

2. Did He speak to you, changing your thoughts and heart to live a good and abundant life?

3. How did you show Him that you really love His words and teachings?

Remember

No man ever spoke like this, pure and full of truth. It is only Jesus Christ our Lord, the Truth of all universe.

Pray

Lord Jesus, thank You for everything You've done, and for allowing me to hear Your word, the only truth that can change my mind and my heart. Help me Lord, so that I can always read and listen to Your words. This I pray in Jesus, my Lord's Name. Amen.
