Live His Truth

Updated: Oct 19, 2022

Scripture Text: Titus 2:1-10

[1] But as for you, teach what accords with sound doctrine.

[10] not pilfering, but showing all good faith, so that in everything they may adorn the doctrine of God our Savior.

Titus 2:1, 10

Teaching sound doctrine should and will always lead us to know God more and His will. His will doesn't fall off trees. It requires seeking the Lord with dedication and all-heart yearning, a pure and renewed heart from God, and an ear that is ready to listen to the Holy Spirit, and what I meant about listening is following, not just empty hearing.

Apostle Paul emphasizes that teachers are to teach only sound doctrine, and sound doctrine is pure from any worldly belief/philosophies and is set apart from this world's standard. The Gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ is the sound doctrine.

The passage starts by reminding Titus that he should teach sound doctrine and be set apart from worldly belief and from those people who preach a different gospel, which is a false gospel. Then he proceeded to enumerate the details of living rightly the gospel that he preaches.

Older men should be self-controlled, serious, and wise. They must be strong in faith, in love, and in patience. To put it simply, older men should be mature in thinking and in action and should have a life that has a stable spiritual life and relationship with Christ.

Older women are to be careful with their mouths, especially with the tendency of talking about other people negatively. Remember, it was commanded to love our neighbors and not to bear false witness against them. They were reminded not to be a drunkard as well. Instead, they must teach what is the will of God.

If the older men and women will do this, they will show the younger men and women what is a life acceptable to our Lord Jesus Christ; a life that is worthy living of the gospel.

Titus, as a teacher, should be a pattern of how a teacher of sound doctrine should live, and as a teacher/student of the word, we are to live our lives in a manner that is honorable to the Lord. We must be teaching with all truth and we must teach it with all importance since we are teaching God's standard of life as His set-apart people.

By doing this, the people who are against us and to the gospel of God will not find any fault in us and will see that we truly live by His gospel. Should we do this for them? No, but we are to do this because this is what God wants for us.

Reflect

1. Do we live the gospel that we preach and teach to other people?

2. Do we aim to follow what we learn from His word?

Remember

We are to live the gospel that we share to the world because this is our truth—His truth is the truth of our lives.

Pray

I pray to You, Father, to please teach my heart to live Your will and for my heart cooperate to Your will. Let the conviction of the Holy Spirit be louder than anyone's voice in my life while I continually walk in this life. In Jesus' Name. Amen.
