Life-Giving Fragrance of Our Lord

Scripture Text: John 12:3 Mary therefore took a pound of expensive ointment made from pure nard, and anointed the feet of Jesus and wiped his feet with her hair. The house was filled with the fragrance of the perfume.

John 12:3

Mary is a beautiful example of a woman who loved the Lord Jesus and who was loved by her Savior. Although the Jewish leaders plotted how they might destroy Him, Mary was a devoted disciple who regularly worshipped at His feet, honored His presence in her home, and drank deeply from the fountain of life.

The love and respect Mary had for Jesus caused her to anoint His feet with an extravagantly costly perfume, which she reverently wiped with her hair so that "the house was filled with the fragrance of the perfume."

The one who worships at the feet of the Lord Jesus in spirit and truth is the one who carries with them some of the fragrant beauty of His person: to those that despise the Lord it is an aroma of death but to those that love Him, it is a fragrance of life.

Reflect

1. If Jesus is your Lord, do you regularly come at his feet and worship Him?

2. Do you always have the time to let others see the life-giving fragrance of Jesus by your works?

Remember

May our lives be so immersed in Christ and so devoted to Him, that we reflect His beauty in all we say and all we are. May we bring to others the life-giving perfume that comes from Him alone.

Pray

Heavenly Father, may I sit at Your feet and worship You with all that I am and all that I have. May the beauty of Jesus seep into my soul and become a life-giving fragrance of His love, to all with whom I come in contact today. In Jesus' name I pray. AMEN.
