Jesus Knows You Well, Believe Him

Scripture Text: John 1:43-51

Nathanael said to him, “How do you know me?” Jesus answered him, “Before Philip called you, when you were under the fig tree, I saw you.”

John 1:48

After Jesus called Philip to follow Him, Philip looked for Nathaniel and excitedly shared precisely to him that they’ve found Jesus of whom Moses and the prophets wrote about. We can see here that Philip, together with Andrew and Peter, knew what was written about the coming of the Messiah. These men were faithfully following their religion.

According to Moses and the prophets, the Messiah will be One that is from the tribe of Judah and have His nativity in Bethlehem. When Philip said, "Jesus of Nazareth", he replied, “can anything good come out of Nazareth?" Maybe he has known the place for its reputation coupled with his ignorance of what was written about the Messiah’s tribe and place of birth that he asked this kind of question.

Great things happened in the life of Nathaniel when he approached and conversed with the Lord Jesus. He was marveled when Jesus said, "Behold an Israelite indeed, in whom there is no deceit!" And he asked, “how do you know me?” Jesus replied, “before Philip called you when you were under the fig tree I saw you." He now began to believe and followed Jesus as the true Messiah they were waiting for.

Nathaniel’s attitude here was commendable, because of his ignorance and zealousness. He tried Philip and even the Lord Jesus. And when he had already proven that Jesus was truly the Messiah, he confessed his submission to His Lordship and authority that he was able to say, "You are the Son of God! The king of Israel!"

Friends, have you tried Jesus of the Bible? Brothers and sisters, have you truly tried Jesus that led to trusting Him and submitting to Him fully? Is not all the history and all these seen things around us enough to prove that He the only Savior, the Creator of everything, who knows all things even our thoughts and our whole being and that we can believe Him, trust Him? That we can also say, "Jesus, you are the Son of God! The king of all!"

Reflect

1. Jesus knows you well, do you believe it now?

2. If it is so, then what is its effect to your life? Where does this lead you?

3. What are your thoughts on telling others to believe Jesus?

4. Are you determined now to make others believe our Lord?

Remember

Only Jesus knows you well. Why? Because He is the God-Creator of everything. Therefore, your thoughts, and your whole being are exposed to Him. He knows us even before we were born. Our hairs are numbered and all our days are destined in His hands. So, you must believe and give Him the control of your life.
