If You Knew Me, You Would Also Know the Father

Scripture Text: John 8:12-20

Jesus answered, “You know neither me nor my Father. If you knew me, you would know my Father also.

John 8:19b

Jesus Christ was God incarnate, He was the Lord's anointed Messiah and He is the only begotten Son of God. This Son of God who shared the Father's heavenly glory before the foundation of the world, set aside His glory so that He could live and die as the perfect pattern of human life. Jesus Christ is the singular example of humanity—to show how God wanted His children to live in spirit, in truth, and to fully submit to His will.

When Jesus Christ came to earth, He was also the perfect pattern of humanity. He had demonstrated from the beginning to the end the conduct and the character that exemplifies Him as a Son of God. Jesus Christ said ONLY what He heard from the Father and did ONLY what He was told to do by His Father. When He set aside His glory for a season, He lived through the indwelling power of the Holy Spirit. But these small-minded, proud-hearted and hypocritical Scribes and Pharisees challenged every claim He made, saying, ‘'Where is Your Father?'’

How astonishing to realize that the Man standing before these foolish and fallen men is the eternal Son of God, the Creator of the universe, the everlasting Savior and perfect Son of Man, through whom heaven and earth was formed. And yet, these arrogant men refused to acknowledge the incarnate Truth, whom they saw with their own eyes and heard with their own ears.

Moreover, Jesus Christ is the exact representation of God's being. He came to earth as the Word made flesh. He came to the tabernacle among His people for a time. He came to tell them about His Father in heaven and to reveal the essence of Deity in their midst. He came to show them how to live and to give His life as the ransom price for many. They did not listen to anything He had said, instead they questioned every truth He had shared.

On top of that, Jesus Christ answered them sadly, "You know neither Me nor My Father, for if you knew Me, you would know My Father also." All things had been delivered up to the Lord Jesus by the Father and He graciously came to earth to reveal the Father—to a race that had become estranged from God because of sin—a race who has no hope in this world.

Thus, God is Spirit, but the Son had come to earth, clothed in human flesh, and committed to reveal the Father to mankind, because all things had been delivered to Him by His Father. No one is able to know the Father except through the Lord Jesus Christ, His only begotten Son, and those whom He chooses to reveal Himself.

Reflect

1. Do you want to really know the Father?

2. Do you also make all the efforts to know Jesus Christ?

3. Will you be committed now to make others know Jesus Christ and the Father?

Remember

Only those who knew the Son will be able to know the Father. All the rule and authority was given by God the Father to God the Son. How sad that those spiritual myopias and the foolish pride of men caused them to miss the Redeemer of the world and keep them in eternal condemnation. Only those who will trust in Jesus Christ will have the salvation through faith and will not perish but will have everlasting life.

Pray

Heavenly Father, thank You that by grace You have forgiven my sin and gave righteousness and judgement. Thank You that by faith in Christ, I have been set free from slavery to sin and was given eternal life. Thank You also, that I have been given free and unimpeded access to the presence of the Majesty on high, to Whom all the praise, might, majesty, dominion, and power... both now and into the eternal ages to come belong. Help me to know and trust You more. In Jesus' holy and precious Name, I pray. Amen.
