Following the Lord

Scripture Text: John 1:37-39

He said to them, “Come and you will see.”

John 1:39a

In reality, all of us have the tendency of following someone who has a good reputation— popular people and those who have power and authority in places or even the officials in our government. Sometimes we become blind that even when the person we are imitating or following is doing insane behavior that will destroy our life, we don't care, we still follow their steps. And many times, following those people disappoint us because they too have weaknesses and limitations. They are not powerful and sovereign like the Lord.

Good thing is, in the Bible, we are told to follow Jesus. Like the apostles and all the believers, they followed the Lord Jesus Christ, and because He is God Himself, He is able to protect, guide, and bring them to abundant life. Of course there is still suffering because abundant life doesn't mean that we will not encounter challenges and hardships. It is a part of it, it is where we will be strong and have full of wisdom; and later when storms come, we can be still.

All those who truly followed Jesus created a good legacy—their names remembered forever. And up to our generation, we look up to their lives. The Lord made them shine, He took care and loved them. So, if you want to experience life in full, not just in this life time on earth but also in eternity, follow Jesus.

Reflect

  1. Do you fully know Jesus?

  2. What is hindering you from following Him?

  3. Have you already put Him as Lord in your life?

  4. Can you now begin to obey His words and commandments?

Pray

Lord Jesus, I thank You that You revealed Yourself to mankind and in me personally; that You are the Lamb of God, the perfect sacrifice for the penalty of my sins. I want to obey and follow You. Please help me, I pray, to be able to understand the truth of Your words so that I can walk worthy in Your sight. These I pray in Your name, amen.
