Curse Lifted, Faith Gifted

Updated: Jun 24, 2022

Scripture Text: Galatians 3:10-14

Christ redeemed us from the curse of the law by becoming a curse for us—for it is written, “Cursed is everyone who is hanged on a tree”—

Galatians 3:13

Christians nowadays tend to overemphasize traditions and dogmas rather than the teaching of the Bible itself, because even some teachers believe these weigh more than what the Bible is teaching.

Not all traditions are biblical though. Apostle Paul continues to address the fault of these teachers who depend upon circumcision or only eating clean foods. Well in fact, there are more deep-seated issues inside of the heart that needs to be addressed.

Apostle Paul continually addressed the concern that just by following the law doesn't mean that it will take you to salvation, because the law itself is used to show what we are in front of God. The curse was attached to failure to keep any part of it because it is also written that if one fails to follow one command, he already failed in following the entire law. (James 2:10)

Quoting the verse, "The righteous shall live by faith" (Hab. 2:4). It was by faith that a man can live in righteousness which was the basis of justification. These people are to acquire faith coming from God for us to live by faith for which the law is the set standard.

The only way that the curse was lifted is through Christ, He took away the curse by taking the curse for us. He took the penalty of the lawbreakers and been made the "curse of the law" and paid the penalty of the curse which made us free from the penalty of transgressing the law and freed us from the slavery of the law. Now, faith is needed for us to be freed from the curse and faith is the power to keep the law.

The sacrifice of our Lord Jesus Christ was the way to let the promised blessing to Abraham be given to all that who believes in Him.

Reflect

Do we still aim to follow the commands of God because of the feeling of we need to do it to earn God's salvation, or because this is what our heartbeat is now because of the gift of faith?

Remember

It was Christ's greatest sacrifice that made us right in front of God's eyes. The law is there to see how holy is God and His words that the only way for us to attain His standards is only through His Son, Jesus Christ.

Pray

Father of everlasting grace, I pray to You and seek Your help to acknowledge that the only contribution that I have with salvation was the sin that made it necessary. Only through Your Son am I made free from the bondage of sin. It was His great sacrifice that made me a part of God's kingdom. Thank You for Your sacrifice, Jesus. All these I pray in Your Name. Amen.
