Christ, the Precious Cornerstone

Scripture Text: 1 Peter 2:1-5

you yourselves like living stones are being built up as a spiritual house, to be a holy priesthood, to offer spiritual sacrifices acceptable to God through Jesus Christ.

1 Peter 2:5

In the letter of Apostle Peter, he reminds us to avoid attitudes that lead us to sin against our brethren and our God. These negative attitudes hinder our spiritual growth. Malice, deceit, hypocrisy, and envy should not be possessed by someone who is a follower of Christ. Like a stone being carved, we have impurities and imperfections that need to be sculpted out by the One who continually works within us to shape us into the individuals He designed us to be, resembling Christ, His only Son.

An assurance for believers and followers of Christ is an unquenchable thirst to do the will of God, much like an infant constantly yearns for its mother's milk. This should be our heartbeat, knowing that our satisfaction comes from pleasing and delighting God. This path leads to growth as we are continuously nurtured by God through His Word.

Those who believe in Christ, the cornerstone, will never be put to shame. With this understanding, we can be confident that God is always with us. We recognize ourselves as His people who follow His Son and acknowledge the truth that He is the Savior of the world.

Knowing this, we should live our lives dedicated to advancing God's kingdom. Christ is the reason for our forgiveness and our inclusion in God's household. We function as His workmanship fulfilling His purpose, empowered solely by the Word of God and the Holy Spirit.

Reflect

Do we allow the Word of God to continually transform, satisfy, and build us for God's holy purpose?

Remember

Christ, the cornerstone denied by many, fulfilled God's will from beginning to end. As we journey through this world with the Gospel in our hands, we have a responsibility to follow and advance God's will.

Pray

Father, I pray to You who continually works in me as I walk in this world. Purify my heart and teach me to live and love the way You want me to and not how the world is designing it. Guide me, as part of Your holy priesthood, to offer my life of worship in all that I do. Knowing that Your Son, Jesus Christ is my strong tower and the bedrock of my salvation. In Jesus' name, I pray. Amen.
