Scripture Text: Colossians 3:17-24

And whatever you do, in word or deed, do everything in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him.

Colossians 3:17

Imagine a community that consists of Christian workers and Christian families who pledged to wholly follow the Lord and to keep a righteous household and workplace and dedicating every part of their lives for the glory of God. What a beautiful sight for the Lord indeed, but every community starts with the family which is why God wanted the household to be established in His words and to delight in pleasing Him.

Before going to the Christian household, Paul reminded the people of God to make sure that in whatever we do, we should please God. Knowing this, regardless of the situation that we are into. We are commanded to dedicate all our actions to our Lord and to seek the will of God in the smallest details of our lives—the food that you are going to eat or the person whom you are going to be with.

When Paul said whatever, He meant everything that we do should be devoted to our Lord. Sins cannot be dedicated nor give glory to our Lord, so all that we aim for is everything that is holy and pleasing to the sight of our God. Anything that is not pleasing should be set aside since you cannot do it in the name of our Lord.

Then Apostle Paul addressed the Christian household by reminding the wives to submit to the authority of their husbands who is in submission under the authority of God; God also commanded the husbands to love their wives and not be harsh with them.

The passage (Eph. 5:22-30; 6:1-9) gave an emphasis on how should a wife submit to her husband. It should be like how the church submits to the Lordship of Jesus Christ. It is by command that God wanted the men to lead the household and it should be kept that way as it is written. Men, on the other hand, has the responsibility to make sure that they love their wives just like how Christ loved the church. A love that is abounding in grace, selfless and unconditional just like how Christ loved us so much that He willingly gave His life as our ransom.

The duty of children to obey their parents in the Lord as the Lord commanded fathers not to provoke them, but to train them and teach them the ways of the Lord by disciplining them. Fathers, not discipling your children is a sin since it was commanded that you ought to teach you child everything about the Lord.

Seeing all these will show that if a household is Christ-centered, there would be harmony inside the house. Even though problems arise, surely all will fall into order because everyone is hearing the word of the Lord.

Paul also spoke to those who are working for others, that we should work knowing that we work for someone above our master/boss; we are working for our Lord. This will remind us that we should work for Him alone and not because of our earthly masters/employers who teaches us to work with integrity and not do something that is unlawful nor take advantage of the privilege that our heavenly master provided to us.

Lastly, Paul reminded everyone that whatever we do, we do it for the Lord alone knowing that the He will reward us as we are all God's servants, serving the everlasting, holy and excellent God.

Reflect

1. Do you dedicate your every action to the God whom you are serving?

2. Are you following the will of God even if you are outside the church and no one is looking?

3. Do you strive and pray to follow God's commands inside your home and do your duties as part of your family?

Remember

Your role as a Christian is to follow the will of the Lord inside your home and in your workplace/school. It is only rightful that you dedicate your life and your every action to the will of God and to the advancement of His Kingdom. This will begin by following the will of God inside your home regardless if you are inside a Christian household or you are the first one that was called out of darkness.

Pray

Father Almighty, we come before You today as we seek for You to give us a heart that aims to glorify You alone and to keep our relationship with our family under Your words. May each one of us be closer to You than anyone else in our family, so we are would follow Your will above anyone else. In the Name of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, I pray. Amen.
