God in Control

Scripture Text: 1 Corinthians 3:1-4

I appeal to you, brothers, by the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that all of you agree, and that there be no divisions among you, but that you be united in the same mind and the same judgment.

1 Corinthians 1:10

Apostle Paul called the Corinthian church as infants in Christ, because they are not yet spiritually mature. What are the proofs why Paul called them immature or unhealthy? They are like children quarrelling, causing division in the church. They allowed to be controlled by their own desires, instead of letting the Holy Spirit take control of their lives. Putting their leaders in the pedestal, instead of Christ.

Same is true in our present time. If not all, some of the churches today are like the Corinthian church—causing division, quarrelling, misunderstanding, jealousy, and self-ambitions. Some are pledging their loyalty to different teachers, instead to God Himself. These are the results of pride and a self-controlled life.

The matured Christian life is in tune with God's desires. Paul is appealing to the Church of Corinth to live in the harmony with each other, that there be no divisions in the church. Rather, be of one mind, united in thought and purpose (1 Corinthians 1:10).

Our goal must be to let God continue to be in control of our lives. Being controlled by our own desires will stunt our spiritual growth and bearing of fruits.

Reflect

1. What is a believer's maturity to you?

2. When do you say you are mature?

3. How can you say you are matured enough?

Remember

Real maturity is when you put your trust in God and let Him be in control of your life.

Pray

Dear God, we ask in Jesus' Name, to continue to take control of our lives. Help us to become what you want us to be. Help us to humble our hearts as we continue to serve you faithfully. May you find us faithful until you come. In Jesus' Name, amen.
