The Sweet and Reassuring Love of Christ

Scripture Text: Song of Solomon 1:1

The Song of Songs, which is Solomon's.

Song of Solomon 1:1

The most amazing truth of our Christian life is the reality that God loves us so much in Christ forever. Here lies everything, that if we are not the beloved (recipient of God’s everlasting love), then we have nothing, and we are actually nothing. Indeed, His love is better than life itself, better than any riches, pleasures and treasures of this world!

But this amazing truth is the very same truth that causes a true believer to doubt, or even experience dilemma. Why? After having the knowledge that we are unworthy before God, after knowing that we are sinners and offenders of Him, and we deserve nothing but the wrath, curses, and punishment of Him, we can’t help but to feel ashamed and undeserving of this great love. This is especially when we look at our Christian walk with much failure over our struggles.

What should we do then? How should a real believer respond and fight this undeniable battle? How should a genuine Christian be victorious, and able to maintain intimacy and joy with the Lord over this matter? How can one continually enjoy His new life in Christ – being the beloved?

Remember, there is no fear in love, but perfect love casts out fear. For fear has to do with punishment, and whoever fears has not been perfected in love. The cure to our doubts and dilemma is the sweet love of Christ Himself that reassures us! In it, we find the grace and mercy that we need, the forgiveness and acceptance that frees us from our guilt and shame, and the kindness that leads us to keep on coming to Him closer and closer than ever!

This is the sweet and reassuring love of Christ for us! And this love has no beginning nor end, for He has loved us with an everlasting love! Keep on discovering this deep love of Christ for us through His words – the Bible. In it, we have the complete testimonies of God’s faithful and loyal love for His chosen people in Christ. As it is written in our text, ‘The Song of Songs, which is Solomon's.’ or in another translation (GNB) ‘The most beautiful of songs, by Solomon.’ While this song is of Solomon’s, we know that the whole Bible/Scripture is of the greater Solomon – which is Christ, and everything about the Bible is about Him. That’s why the Bible is the most beautiful book of all!

Read the Bible, immerse yourself in it until every teaching, instruction, command, and promise is your reality in life!

Reflect

1. How much knowledge do you possess about the love of God in Christ for you?

2. Do you still get your strength, comfort, peace, and joy in God’s promises revealed in His written word – the Bible?

Remember

The Word of God is given for us to know everything about our God and everything He has done in the life of His own Son, Jesus Christ. Everything in it is enough for our salvation, and our walk in our new life in Christ. In it, we can know how the Lord loves us so much, in Christ.

Read

Psalm 119:10-16; Joshua 1:8; Jeremiah 15:16 and Colossians 3:16

Pray

Father, I come to You, in the name of Your Son, Jesus Christ. Please give me a heart that will long to know more of Your love revealed in the Scriptures, a mind that will always yearn to see and understand Your great love revealed in Your written Word, and a strength, capacity and faith to be filled with Your sweet and reassuring love in Christ, recorded in the Bible, that I may have the confidence to come to You through Your written words and in prayer, and live my life in Christ with a greater estimation of His worth. This I pray in His Name, amen!
