The Source of People's Strength

Scripture Text: Judges 14:5-9

Then the Spirit of the Lord rushed upon him, and although he had nothing in his hand, he tore the lion in pieces as one tears a young goat. But he did not tell his father or his mother what he had done.

Judges 14:6

One of the famous and interesting stories of Samson, especially for kids, was when he killed the lion. When Samson and his parents went down to the city of Timnah to visit and marry the Philistine woman, a young lion suddenly roared and jumped at Samson near the luxurious vineyards of that city. Suddenly, the power of the LORD made Samson strong, and he tore the lion apart with his bare hands, as if it were a young goat.

That event was the beginning of Samson's mission, and God showed him that He was true to His covenant with him. Remember, Samson was raised by the Lord as a Nazirite to save the Israelites from the power of the Philistines. Samson's mission as anointed Judge of Israel would require physical strength. The Lord made a covenant with Samson that, as long as he obeyed the Lord, he would be physically strong, with his long hair serving as a sign of this covenant, mentioned in Judges 13:5.

Remember also that God made a covenant with all the Judges to save His people, and as long as they obeyed the Lord, He was with them. This applies to Moses, Joshua, and other biblical characters in the Old Testament. They were empowered by God to fulfill His covenant, and the 12 disciples under Jesus' covenant were empowered by the Holy Spirit, as promised by God the Father through Jesus Christ, to fulfill His divine purpose and give Him glory. That's why Jesus sent His disciples to all people to share and proclaim the good news of salvation (Gospel).

The Lord God, who empowered people in the Old Testament and the 12 disciples, is the same Lord empowering us today to fulfill the mission entrusted to us by our Lord Jesus Christ through the Holy Spirit's empowerment. Therefore, we need to obey and follow His commands because this is His will.

As believers and followers of Jesus, we need to so the mission He entrusted to us, to fulfill His divine purpose. We need to go and share the Gospel of Jesus to save more lost souls and bring them to our Lord. The assurance is, He is always with us, to the end of the ages, through the empowerment of the Holy Spirit.

Reflect

  1. Do you want to use the life entrusted to you by God through His divine mission?

  2. Do you acknowledge the presence of God with you through the Holy Spirit?

  3. Do you want to please, praise, and glorify Jesus Christ forever?

Remember

God is the only source of our strength and everything. Without Him, we are nothing!

Pray

Father God,

Thank you for the story of Samson, a person whom you have anointed to save your own people. Truly, you are true and faithful to your promises. You make every opportunity available for us to obey you, honor you, and give you glory.

You are the source of power; you give and take. But when you see our hearts repentant over our sins and our mistakes, you immediately forgive and restore us. Thank you for being the great God of second chances and of many chances.

You are patient with your people, and you keep your covenant. Indeed, faithful and true.

We ask, Father, that you keep our hearts clean and aligned with your will at all times, that our lives may remain in your presence and may remain blessed. All this we ask in Jesus' mighty name, Amen!
