The Rest for God's People

Scripture Text: Judges 3:12-30

And the people of Israel again did what was evil in the sight of the Lord, and the Lord strengthened Eglon the king of Moab against Israel, because they had done what was evil in the sight of the Lord. He gathered to himself the Ammonites and the Amalekites, and went and defeated Israel. And they took possession of the city of palms. And the people of Israel served Eglon the king of Moab eighteen years.

Judges 3:12‭-‬14

Because of the terrible suffering of God's people from the hand of Eglon, king of Moab, the Lord heard their cry. And the Lord anointed Ehud as the second judge of Israel to deliver and save His people from their terrible crisis.

How was Ehud defeated the king of Moab?

Ehud, the son of Gera, the Benjaminite, a left-handed man and other Israelite delegates were returning from delivering their tribute (taxes) to king Eglon, but Ehud turned back and personally killed Eglon at Jericho using his two edged sword. Then Ehud escaped to the hill country of Ephraim and he led the Israel warriors and they killed at that time about 10,000 of the Moabites, all strong, able-bodied men; not a man escaped. So Moab was subdued that day under the hand of Israel. And the land of Israel had rest for eighty years.

Reflect

Are you aware that God through Jesus Christ will give you the best rest ever?

Our Lord Jesus Christ encourages all His believers-followers through apostle Paul;

Let us therefore strive to enter that rest, so that no one may fall by the same sort of disobedience (Hebrews 4:11)

Therefore, as the Holy Spirit says, “Today, if you hear his voice, do not harden your hearts as in the rebellion, on the day of testing in the wilderness,

(Hebrews 3:7‭-‬8, 4:7 mentioned also in Psalms 95:7-8)

Remember

For the word of God is living and active, sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing to the division of soul and of spirit, of joints and of marrow, and discerning the thoughts and intentions of the heart.

And no creature is hidden from his sight, but all are naked and exposed to the eyes of him to whom we must give account.

(Hebrews 4:12-13)

Pray

Dear God, during my crisis, troubles, tribulations, and disasters, You come to always save and rescue me. Thank You so deeply for the rest that You give is so refreshing, a refreshment that comes only from the Holy One, the Lord Jesus Christ.

I ask of You Abba Father to never let go of me, that despite my disobedience, You still make me cleansed, and worthy to enjoy the very peace, the peace of God. I ask all these things in Jesus' name. Amen!
