The Proof of Victory

Scripture Text: Joshua 3:9-17

Then Joshua said to the Israelites, “Come and listen to the words of the Lord your God. Here is proof that the living God is really with you and that he will surely defeat your enemies. He will defeat the Canaanites, Hittites, Hivites, Perizzites, Girgashites, Amorites, and Jebusites; he will force them to leave their land.

Joshua 3:9‭-‬10

The people really respected, obeyed, and listened to Joshua when they called for God's words and instructions. Joshua assured the Israelites that God's presence would really be with them as well as the assurance of God's promised land for their inheritance.

• The Israelites personally witnessed and experienced the miracle of God when the flood in Jordan river dried up, and enabled them to cross easily (v. 16). God showed both Israelites and Canaanites that He is the Lord over waters (as He was at the Red Sea, at the Great Flood and at Creation).

• The Israelites were truly amazed when the mighty God defeated all the inhabitants in the land of Canaan; even their gods were helpless and were not able to defend them. All the people there were killed (Joshua 6:21), except Rahab, her whole family and all her relatives (Joshua 6:22, 23, 25).

The miracles done by God were the proof of victory, as a result, the generation led by Joshua seriously worshiped the true God.

On the other hand, during Jesus' time, He performed many miracles. Many people were saved and believed that He is the Son of the living God, the Savior and the only Messiah. Jesus Christ died and God resurrected Him; even hell was conquered and the enemies of the cross were clearly defeated. Jesus alone is the real proof of victory.

We are blessed because we have victory in His Name. Now, He will secure a perfect place for us as our eternal inheritance (Heaven).

Reflect

1. Do you worship God because of the miracles He does?

2. Do you experience miracles in your daily life?

3. Do you know that salvation through Jesus is open to all?

4. Do you share Jesus to others?

Remember

Eternal salvation is the ultimate proof of victory designed by God through our Lord Jesus Christ. He is the God of victory. Without Him, we cannot survive against the world; and without the Holy Spirit's presence, our lives are all miserable.

Pray

Dear God, thank You because in times of trouble, You are always with us—rescuing, protecting, caring, saving us from any harm or danger. We continue to entrust our life to You and we will walk according to Your will. Thank You, Lord because everyday in our lives, we are experiencing victory in Your Name. Thank You so much. In Jesus' Name. Amen!
