The One Source of Victory

Scripture Text: Judges 7:16-25

When Gideon’s 300 men blew their trumpets, the Lord caused the men of Midian to kill each other with their swords. The enemy army ran away to the city of Beth Shittah, which is toward the city of Zererah. They ran as far as the border of the city of Abel Meholah, which is near the city of Tabbath

Judges 7:22

Prior to the physical battle between the 300 Israelite armies led by Gideon and Midian and its allies (like locust in number), if the human perspective was the basis; the inferior must be at Gideon side and the superior must be the Midian. But in God's perspective, those people who were in the Lord, the victory was already assured because the Lord almighty alone is superior to all.

Normally, in the physical battle, only a comparatively small number of men in an army carried trumpets. But in Gideon's battle, God used the 300 Israelite army to carry and blow the trumpets while they were attacking the enemies.

Ironically, no Israelite swords were used at all, only torches, trumpets, and jars-scarcely classic military weapons. Was this God's way? Amazingly, Yes! He turned the Midianites swords against them and they killed each other and they fled south and east to the Jordan River and across (vv. 23-25).

A similar panic occurred among the Ammonites, Moabites and Edomites (2 Chr.20:23) and on somewhat smaller scale, among the Philistines at Gibeah (1 Samuel 4:20; see also Ezekiel 38:21, Zech.14:13 and Judges 4:15).

Therefore, as His people, we are blessed because our God had already given us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ. That's why the Lord's presence and power is enough for us to win the battles in life. Truly, His ways are perfect and unstoppable and He is the ultimate source of victory for the sake of His righteous people.

Reflect

1. In life's most difficult battles, we may feel we are bound for defeat. But imagine how defying the ways of God are. His people won the battle against an army which number was described as locust by using torches, trumpets, and jars.

2. Indeed, salvation comes from the Lord.

3. Do you believe that Jesus Christ is the source of eternal salvation to all who obey Him?

Remember

God is the ultimate source of both blessing and disaster; Blessing or victory is for the righteous and disaster is for the unrighteous.

I create both light and darkness; I bring both blessing and disaster. I, the Lord, do all these things (Isaiah 45:7)

Pray

Mighty God, our Deliverer and Guide, in the darkness of uncertainty, we seek Your light. Like Gideon, we listen for Your voice, trusting in Your might. With only three hundred, against countless foes we stand. Yet, in faith, we raise our trumpets and torches in hand. Confusion falls upon the enemy's camp. Your power displayed, an astounding stamp. You lead us to victory in battles we face. Teaching us courage, humility, and reliance on Your grace. Through unity and obedience, we find strength. In Your sovereignty, we go to any length. Defeating the odds, You're our shield and sword, in Your hands, we find triumph, forever adored. With hearts of gratitude, we praise Your name. For Your guidance and love, we'll never be the same. In Jesus' Name. Amen!
