The Lord Fulfills His Covenant

Scripture Text: Joshua 12:7-24

And these are the kings of the land whom Joshua and the people of Israel defeated on the west side of the Jordan, from Baal-gad in the Valley of Lebanon to Mount Halak, that rises toward Seir (and Joshua gave their land to the tribes of Israel as a possession according to their allotments, in the hill country, in the lowland, in the Arabah, in the slopes, in the wilderness, and in the Negeb, the land of the Hittites, the Amorites, the Canaanites, the Perizzites, the Hivites, and the Jebusites):

Joshua 12:7‭-‬8

Joshua and the Israelites were empowered by the Lord to defeat the 31 kings in the land of Canaan. Those kings and their people were totally destroyed per God's instructions to Moses, implemented and fulfilled by Joshua. Those people who were destroyed did not acknowledge Yahweh as the only God, Creator and Savior. That is why the Lord judged them to die (vv. 9-24).

On the other hand, Rahab, her clan, and the Gibeonites were saved by God through Joshua because they acknowledged the God of Israel as true God, Creator, Savior, Lord of all the lords and King of all the kings. They feared and acknowledged all the miracles done by God in Egypt, in the Red Sea, in the wilderness, and in Jordan River. They acknowledged also that Canaan land was intended for Israel people.

Finally, the tribe of Israel received their inheritance from the Lord through Joshua as a life time possession according to their allotments to fulfil the Lord's covenant with Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob.

The Lord who fulfilled promises with our spiritual forefathers is the same Lord that we worship and serve today. His name is Jesus Christ, we are under His covenant. Because of God's love, He personally went on earth being a true God, a true Servant, a true King, the only Savior, and He offered true salvation to all. Because of His love, grace, and mercy, God adopted us as His sons, daughters, and true citizens of His kingdom. This is the best inheritance that we hope for.

Reflect

1. What inheritance do you hope for?

2. Do you really believe that Jesus will fulfill it for you and for your loved ones?

3. Do you really believe in the Lordship and Kingship of Christ?

Remember

God is truly faithful to His covenant with the one He loves and He fulfills it through Christ!

Pray

Dear God, thank You for Your love, grace, and mercy extended to me and to my brothers and sisters in Christ. Thank You for the eternal salvation and for the eternal inheritance You intended to give to me and to my loved ones. I thank You because You found and redeemed Me. Your love never ceases! Thank You Lord for Your presence through the Holy Spirit. In Jesus' mighty Name. Amen!
