The Greatest Desire To Accomplish

Scripture Text: Joshua 2:23-24

Then the two men returned. They came down from the hills and passed over and came to Joshua, the son of Nun, and they told him all that had happened to them.

And they said to Joshua, “Truly the Lord has given all the land into our hands. And also, all the inhabitants of the land melt away because of us.”

Joshua 2:23-24

Christians must desire to accomplish God's entrusted mission.

Because of God's ways, the messengers (two spies) went back to Israel's camp safely and they reported to Joshua the details of the mission they accomplished based on Rahab's testimonies as the final confirmation prior for the conquest. This was the fulfilment of God's promise to Abraham's descendants (Israelites) to inherit the land as their real home and rest (Joshua 21:44, Exodus 23:31).

When the Lord Jesus came first on earth, He fulfilled the will of God and He accomplished the divine mission given to Him by God the Father:

But the testimony that I have is greater than that of John. For the works that the Father has given me to accomplish, the very works that I am doing, bear witness about me that the Father has sent me.

John 5:36

Then the Lord Jesus commanded His apostles/disciples to share and proclaim the gospel to all peoples. They obeyed Jesus' will and accomplished the divine mission given to them by the Lord and many souls were saved!

Apostle Paul was also chosen by God and was given power and authority to fulfill the divine mission for the Gentiles' eternal salvation. Paul and the early Christians did the will of God and they accomplished the said mission entrusted to them by the Lord Jesus through the empowerment of the Holy Spirit. That is why the gospel reached us.

Our Lord Jesus wants all His genuine followers to engage and must continue to accomplish the divine mission for the lost souls, and to take care of the saved souls. Seriously, we need to value the sacrifices that Jesus did for us and we must obey His will to save more souls.

In God's time, we will meet our Lord Jesus face to face. Definitely, He will ask about the mission He entrusted to us. As His people and messengers of His word (gospel), He expects a good report from us for Him to be glorified. But how can we glorify Him if we do not do and accomplish the mission He entrusted to us?

Reflect

1. Do you want to glorify God?

2. Do you desire to accomplish the mission He entrusted to us?

3. Is eternal salvation and eternal inheritance important to you?

Remember

• Obeying God's will is the true mark of genuine Christ's followers.

• Sharing and proclaiming the gospel for the lost souls is the ultimate mission to be accomplished of all genuine Christians through the empowerment of the Holy Spirit.

Pray

Dear God, thank You because Your words rebuked and reminded me about the divine mission (gospel) You entrusted to Your people to save more souls. I humbly ask for Your forgiveness for my shortcomings. I ask the Holy Spirit to strengthen my spirit to do Your will always. Help me, Lord, to accomplish Your mission for me. In Jesus' Name. Amen!
