Take Heart: Taken by His Heart

Scripture Text: Song of Solomon 4:1-7

You are altogether beautiful, my love; there is no flaw in you.

Song of Solomon 4:7

In the difficulty of living as pure as we can before God and for God, and in light of the knowledge that we know that we are all undeserving of God’s all-satisfying eternal love, it’s hard to believe the reality that we have as the Bride of Christ that God loves us so much in Him – the Beloved. But every part of Christian life requires faith—assurance of things hoped for, the conviction of things not seen. Being a Christian therefore is to continue in believing with everything God has said, according to His word. And that includes that in spite of all the worthlessness that we can see in us, and despite of all the nothingness that we have apart from Him, we believe exactly when He said I have loved you with an everlasting love. The love that has no beginning, nor end. At the core of our covenantal love-relationship with God through our Lord Jesus Christ, faith is crucial or vital. There is a call of trust to us that [must] transcend the physical realm, namely what we can see, or feel, or even think of ourselves because of our inconsistent love and passion for Christ, and just starting to believe in hope purely, that God really loves us not because of what we can do or what we are doing, but because He just loved us, and He has said it so! But God shows his love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.

Its really hard to believe that God loves us so much in Christ. Not only that, God is exulting and rejoicing in loving us! For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through him. Keep in mind as well what God has said about Himself - God is not man, that he should lie, or a son of man, that he should change his mind. Has he said, and will he not do it? Or has he spoken, and will he not fulfill it? That being said, know also for certain that this is our unchanging glorious and high blessed reality. God Himself again has said “For I the LORD do not change; therefore you, O children of Jacob, are not consumed”, or “Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever.” Our passage or how Solomon adores his bride, reflects how Christ the Beloved exults and rejoices in adoring His bride [the Church]. And we must take and believe this with our whole heart:

  • VV.1-7 shows how the Beloved [Christ] admires the physical beauty of the maiden – God can see the inward and outward, but He exults and rejoices in adoring you as He see His Son in you.

  • V.1 shows the intensity of the affection of the Beloved [Christ] towards you – beautiful…beautiful. The repetition even dictates not just the magnitude of affection, but also conveys superlative of appreciation of the beauty by the Beloved [Christ] Himself.

  • V.7 shows that in the sight of the Beloved, He sees His bride [the Church] as altogether beautiful…there is no flaw in you. Not only that He expresses the immensity of His affection, but the Beloved [Christ] Himself exults and rejoices in being bound and determined to love His bride [the Church]! That because of that love, the bride [the Church] has reach the place in the sight of the Beloved [Christ] the perfection of beauty and delight!

To be loved by the Beloved indeed is the highest blessedness. Not only that, it is also the first step to holiness, and the only way to glory. And this is the reason why we must never stop acclaiming with the psalmist that the Lover-Redeemer’s heart is the loveliest place to be. We say therefore to our hearts, because Your steadfast love is better than life, my lips will praise you.

The real believer’s heart is awakened to perceive the wonders of God in the person of our Lover-Redeemer, Jesus Christ! From there, we learn to enthusiastically acclaim, oh taste and see that the LORD is good!

He who does not want know more of Him, knows nothing of Him yet…

Hear this then, dear saint! Blessed is the one whose transgression is forgiven, whose sin is covered.

Desire communion with Him, who has loved us eternally! Thirst and long for Him! Be in awe of Him, the darling of Heaven! He is all yours… He is all-perfect, all-holy, all-glorious and all-happy! Be exceedingly joyous in being His beloved. If you have truly seen Him, then He is your exceeding joy.

Nobody loves you like He does…

Christ is all that we have! Christ is all that we need!

Take heart, dear saint!

Reflect

1. How does the love of Christ affect your life?

2. Do you take confidence in Christ’s all-satisfying and all-encompassing love?

3. Do you desire and long to love Him more, as you ought to be?

Remember

Let it never be forgotten that Jesus Christ is the love song of God. He is the love of God manifested in us. And in Him, we have received the worth and state that we don’t deserve—to be in the center of the heart of the Beloved, our blessedness.

Pray

Father in heaven, I come before You in the Name of Your Son, longing to have more and more love for Him. Please fix my vision towards Him who loves me so much. Please make it a seal in my heart, to pursue Him and love Him above all, who loves me so much. May You teach me with Your patience to draw strength from Him who loves me so much. Empty me of all my desires for worthless things, and fix my affection to Him only, who loves me so much. This I pray, in the lovely name of Your Son. Amen.
