Pursuing God's Love is Never Disinteresting

Scripture Text: Song of Solomon 1:15

Behold, you are beautiful, my love;

behold, you are beautiful;

your eyes are doves.

Song of Solomon 1:15

As we keep on talking about the love of God in Christ for us, it will never be one of those overrated matters to deal about. For we know that this truth must be part of our never ending pursuit, that we should always pray that we may have the strength to comprehend with all the saints what is the breadth and length and height and depth, and to know the love of Christ that surpasses knowledge, that you (we) be filled with all the fullness of God.

Throughout the Scripture, we have known so far that this love is reassuring, comforting, satisfying and truly delightful! The love of our Lover-Redeemer, is truly a bliss just as the same as who He is – our highest happiness!

To say that you know the love of God in Christ is to deeply say that you know nothing of it, or a little of it. Yes, it still remains indescribable and far beyond what we can comprehend, but it is undeniably a joy-provider and sustainer for us, His beloved! To know His love for us must never be detached from knowing who He is to us—God is love, and whoever abides in love abides in God, and God abides in him. Everything that God does is always a sum of who He is. His love for us, this love that has no beginning nor end, this love that happens to be mysterious yet brightly manifested in the face of Christ, is what we truly need! Know it continuously, with such haste and desperation, for it is what you truly need, dear saint!

As the poem continues, this time with the reply of the Beloved for His beloved [the bride of Christ], “Behold, you are beautiful, my love; behold, you are beautiful; your eyes are doves” (v.15); the language used here is earnest and empathic. It is doubled or repeated, to manifest His fervent affection for her—as indicative of strong emotion and deep conviction, as well as the desire to assure the bride of its truth (in light of knowing her own blackness or darkness – v.5). Know this love, dear saint, in light of who He is and who you really are apart from Him! He is Holy and you are rebellious, yet this love was manifested by forgiving the repentant, accepting or welcoming the sinner to enjoy His never ending love.

Yes, dear saint, this love is telling you that you are beautiful in His sight, for your Lover-Redeemer has chosen to die on your behalf that you might live, that you might receive the same Spirit that has given Him resurrection, and He sees the fruit of the Spirit in you – presently and to the future eternity! That’s how He sees your fairness or your beauty, He is giving you high praise for your comeliness and excellency, for all that are His are yours now with your union with Him, your Lover-Redeemer!

The love of God in Christ is not a riddle to be solved, nor a code to be deciphered. It is always a character of Him, to be trusted. This love of Christ is always exciting to learn and know intimately. It never to be taken granted as well. Take heed of this reminder, dear saint.

The real believer’s heart is awakened to perceive the wonders of God in the person of our Lover-Redeemer, Jesus Christ! From there, we learn to enthusiastically acclaim, oh taste and see that the LORD is good!

He who does not want know more of Him, knows nothing of Him yet…

Hear this then, dear saint! For the love of Christ controls us, because we have concluded this: that one has died for all, therefore all have died.

Desire communion with Him, who has loved us eternally! Thirst and long for Him! Be in awe of Him – the darling of Heaven! He is all yours… He is all-perfect, all-holy, all-glorious and all-happy! Be exceedingly joyous in being His beloved. If you have truly seen Him, then He is your exceeding joy.

Nobody loves you like He does…

Christ is all that we have! Christ is all that we need!

Take heart, dear saint!

Reflect

1. Do you see the love of God as an overrated topic to often talk about?

2. Are you still amazed and fascinated in the fact that God has loved a person like you?

3. Do you desire and long to love Him more, as you ought to be?

Remember

Be all for Christ, since He is all for you.

Pray

Father, we ask for forgiveness for taking lightly the love that You have for us in Christ. Forgive us if we think that we already know much of it, and make us realize as well, as we have always requested from You, that You awaken our darkened hearts to the wonders of Your love in the person of our Lord Jesus Christ. Please incline our hearts and seal it for us to not to take Your love for granted nor be disinterested with the love that You have for us in Christ. This we pray, in His Name. Amen.
