Pray Earnestly to God

Scripture Text: Joshua 2:8-13

Now then, please swear to me by the Lord that, as I have dealt kindly with you, you also will deal kindly with my father’s house, and give me a sure sign that you will save alive my father and mother, my brothers and sisters, and all who belong to them, and deliver our lives from death.”

Joshua 2:12‭-‬13

Rahab's personal confession and request showed the manifestation of her true faith to God. She totally abandoned idols in her life and was filled with the language and theology of the Pentateuch, especially Deuteronomy and echoes in Joshua 1:2.

Rahab knew the history of Israel and had a knowledge about the Promised Land (Canaan) intended for God's people (Israelites). She believed that the inheritance of the land was the fulfilment of God's covenant with Abraham. She also knew the miracles done by God for His people.

Rahab informed the spies regarding the vital information about Canaan and Jericho that all inhabitants in the whole land were frightened and in fear of the coming conquest. She acknowledged the ways of the Lord and she feared the God of Israel that's why her earnest prayer to Him was to save her whole family from death (physical and spiritual).

Truly, Rahab was saved by God, including her family. The Lord did not allow them to suffer from destruction.

Joshua 6:17

And the city and all that is within it shall be devoted to the Lord for destruction. Only Rahab, the prostitute and all who are with her in her house shall live, because she hid the messengers whom we sent.

Joshua 6:25

But Rahab the prostitute and her father’s household and all who belonged to her, Joshua saved alive. And she has lived in Israel to this day, because she hid the messengers whom Joshua sent to spy out Jericho.

In 1 Thessalonians chapter 5, apostle Paul reminded God's people to be ready for the Lord's final coming. God assured that His children will be protected until the end of the age through Christ Jesus. Apostle Paul encouraged and challenged God's people to pray earnestly to God that more souls are to be saved especially our loved ones so that Christ's kindness and grace will be extended to them also. We must pray that all brothers and sisters in Christ will grow stronger in faith through the empowerment of the Holy Spirit. And, we must pray constantly that all Christ's servants in the church who work hard for the advancement of His kingdom will be blessed abundantly by God.

Reflect

1. Do you pray joyfully and earnestly to God through Jesus Christ?

2. Are your prayer concerns related to God's Kingdom?

3. Your prayer is really important to God, so why do you not pray earnestly and consistently to God through Christ Jesus?

Remember

As God's people, we need to be faithful to our only Savior Jesus Christ. We oblige to obey Him and do His will always. When we pray, see to it that our hearts are pure and full of joy, always giving praises, and giving thanks to Him in all circumstances.

Pray

Dear God, Thank You because You saved my life from spiritual destruction. Thank You because You extended Your love and grace to me and to my family. I pray that all people will be saved spiritually through the empowerment of the Holy Spirit. In Jesus' Name. Amen!
