Scripture Text: Joshua 10:28-43

And Joshua captured all these kings and their land at one time, because the Lord God of Israel fought for Israel.

Joshua 10:42

The reason why the Lord still fights for Israel is because He wanted to fulfill His covenant with Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, and one of His covenants was the land in Canaan. The Lord appeared to Abram and said, “I will give this land to your descendants.” Abram built an altar to honor the Lord who appeared to him there (Genesis 12:7). The Lord appeared means that God often uses special shapes so that people could see Him. Sometimes He was like a man, an angel, a fire, or a bright light.

Then, the Lord God established a covenant with Isaac (Genesis 17:21, 26:2-5). Finally, God made a covenant with Jacob (Genesis 28:12-15). He wrestled with God until the Lord blessed him and changed his name from Jacob to Israel (Genesis 32:24-28, 35:9-12). Israel, this name might mean "he fights for God", "he fights with God", or "God's fight".

Apostle Paul emphasized that the Lord God who fights for Israel is the same Lord God who fights for us. The same Lord God that we worship and serve through His church. The same Lord God who gave us the spiritual inheritance.

Our God the Father blessed us through His Son Jesus Christ. He chose us before the foundation of the world was made. And He predestined us for adoption to himself as sons through our Lord Jesus Christ, according to the purpose of His will.

In other words, all followers of Christ (both Israel and Gentiles) are equal in the sight of God. They were saved only by the grace of God through Christ. And this is the ultimate fulfillment of God's covenant to our spiritual forefathers: Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob. God fulfilled His divine covenant through His Son Jesus Christ.

Therefore, we as Gentile genuine Christians, are blessed because our God the Father extended His grace, mercy and compassion on us. That's why He saved us and He adopted us through His Son Jesus Christ to make us His proper people in His kingdom forever. Truly, He loved us! However, those people who reject the Lord God of Israel and reject the Lordship and Kingship of Christ shall be condemned for destruction whether they are Israelites or Gentiles.

Reflect

1. Are you satisfied with God's adoption through Christ?

2. Are you blessed because God will fight for you?

3. Are you happy with Jesus Christ's covenant?

Remember

The ultimate fulfilment of God's covenant is Jesus Christ, our Lord! This makes Jesus the guarantor of a better and excellent covenant (Hebrews 7:22, 8:6).

Pray

Dear God, thank You for the fulfilment of Your divine plan and for Your saving grace. Thank You because You saved me from the eternal destruction. Thank You because You gave me the spiritual inheritance. Thank You because You always fight for me despite the shortcomings that I've done to You. Thank You because You adopted me as part of Your kingdom people. Thank You Lord because the Holy Spirit is always reminding me to value Your words— to read it, meditate it, and apply it for the glory of my mighty Lord God, Jesus. In Your Name. Amen!
