Not Just Loved: Preciously, Peculiarly Loved by Christ!

Scripture text: Song of Solomon 1:2a

"She"

Understanding that God loves us with an everlasting love is such a joy and comfort for us (being the beloved). It has no beginning nor end. It is not subjected to any change, it doesn’t need improvement. It is always at its best since God loved us in Christ. It gives us peace amidst our intense sorrow, satisfaction amidst the wearying discontents, and security amidst enslaving fears.

But do you know that His love for us is far greater than we can ever comprehend? Do you know personally that you are not just loved by Christ?

Yes, you are not just loved by Christ! You are preciously, peculiarly loved by Christ! Notice the subtitle that we have in our text as we put our concentration in it – she (v.2). We, [the people of God], are being described as a woman, as the bride of Christ, not just here in our passage but throughout the Scriptures, to convey clearly the fragility that we havethat there is a need for us to be taken care of with such caution and love. Here we see that our Lover-Redeemer, Jesus Christ, is perfectly fit and rightful for the role! It is our blessedness to be the bride of Christ, indeed! And being the beloved (recipient of God’s everlasting love), our safest place is in His tender heart.

If you have grasp of this blessedness in Christ, what is the reason for us to be anxious about anything? To be afraid of tomorrow? What shall make us hopeless in this life?

Remember, all things work together for good for those who love God, who are called according to his purpose. Your life here and hereafter is in the custody of the One who has loved you with an everlasting love, the One who has secured it at the expense of His own life, and He has stored up His good plans for you, plans for welfare and not for evil, to give you a future and a hope.

What more can we ask for? Keep in mind that nothing can separate us from the love of Christ!

Christ is all that we have! Christ is all that we need!

Take heart, dear saint!

Reflect

  1. How much of Christ’s love has secured and comforted you in this life?

  2. How much do you cherish the relationship and standing that you have before Christas His bride? As His chosen people?

  3. Do you confidently trust in His never-failing love for you?

Remember

Real believers of Christ must realize the exclusivity of his/her personal relationship with the Lord. The love of God is for those who are only in Christ. This will never change. While He is holding and working the tapestry of our lives, He sees in the top perspective, while we can only see the back. Be still and know that He is God, dear saint!

Pray

Father, we come to you in prayer and in the name of your Son, to ask of the greatest gift that we could ever ask, and that is to be able to behold your Son more and more as our Lover-Redeemer. Make us see that we are completely safe in His heart, allow us to know deep in our hearts that His love is all that we need, and without Him we will not have the strength to move an inch in our lives. Make us understand that He is everything to us, here and hereafter. We pray that You incline our hearts towards Him, and our desires and affections for Him alone. This we pray in His name, Amen.
