My All-Encompassing Lover, Jesus Christ

Updated: Apr 2, 2021

Scripture Text: Song of Solomon 1:3

your anointing oils are fragrant;

your name is oil poured out;

therefore virgins love you.

Song of Solomon 1:3

Completeness, contentment, and consolation truly comes only from our Lover-Redeemer, Jesus Christ, for we know that He has loved us with an everlasting love - a kind of love that has no beginning nor end, a kind of love that is always at its best, a kind of love that will never be subject to change. We even know that nothing can separate us from the love of Christ! His love is much more desirable than anything because His steadfast love is better than life itself!

That is why we must keep on believing that it is our greatest blessedness to be the beloved [Bride of Christ/Recipient of God’s everlasting love] despite of our shortcomings, waywardness, and even our immaturities in our life in Christ. Know that this love from our Lover-Redeemer is truly dependable! For we know that God shows His love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us. Therefore, it is worthy to repeat, that the most amazing truth of our Christian life, is the reality that God loves us so much in Christ forever. Here lies [our] everything, that if we are not the beloved, then we have nothing, and we are actually nothing.

Why?

We have come to know that the love of Christ is sweet and reassuring! He doesn’t just love us—we are preciously, peculiarly loved by Christ! As how a man should treat his wife, we are exactly being cherished by our Lover-Redeemer with such love! Not only that, we also have come to know that His love for us is truly captivating, unsearchable and gladdening! What more can we say about this love? We should have it lest we die! Finally, we have also seen that the far excellence of Christ’s love is something that we should be always celebrating in a manner of awe-worshipping. It is truly better than anything!

When we have come to truly know this love, it is now where we truly learn to loudly and proudly acclaim that “your anointing oils are fragrant; your name is oil poured out; therefore virgins love you (v.2).” Meaning, His character and person is greatly to be praised, for it is perfectly manifested with such elegance and grandeur compared to an oil poured out. We now see how lovely our Jesus Christ is! We now see that there is no error in Him! That there is not a single tiny spot of displeasure that we can ever see in Him! That He is all-beautiful, all-perfect and all-glorious! That He is to be desired the most, to be praised the most, to be honored the most! We have seen how comely He truly is!

Then it goes to say that in Him was life, and the life was the light of men.

Then it goes to say that from His fullness we have all received, grace upon grace.

Then it goes to say that His glory, is the glory as of the only Son from the Father, full of grace and truth.

Then it goes to say that He is the radiance of the glory of God and the exact imprint of his nature.

And He is before all things, and in him all things hold together!

When we see how truly glorious is He and the life that He offers to you and me, there we truly learn to leave everything behind [our sins], and go after to what is truly glorious – our Lover-Redeemer, Jesus Christ. There we finally understand and learn to immediately leave our nets and boats and follow Him. There we finally comprehend to rise and leave our tax booths and go after Him. There we are propelled and compelled after discovering His beauties and excellencies to come down from the sycamore tree to welcome Jesus, our salvation in our home. Finally, we deeply learn now to say Lord, to whom shall we go? You have the words of eternal life, and we have believed, and have come to know, that you are the Holy One of God.

Oh, how beautiful is He, how blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord! Our Lover-Redeemer is always for us, dear saint! Therefore, who can be against us? He who did not spare his own Son but gave him up for us all, how will he not also with him graciously give us all things? Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? Shall tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or danger, or sword?

Hear this then, dear saint—I am sure that neither death nor life, nor angels nor rulers, nor things present nor things to come, nor powers, nor height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord!

Desire communion with Him, who has loved us eternally! Thirst and long for Him! Be in awe of Him—the darling of Heaven! He is all yours… He is all-perfect, all-holy, all-glorious and all-happy! Be exceedingly joyous in being His beloved. If you have truly seen Him, then He is your exceeding joy.

Nobody loves you like He does…

Christ is all that we have! Christ is all that we need!

Take heart, dear saint!

Reflect

  1. Do you see Christ as to be desired above all things?

  2. Do you find Christ’s love for you as your ultimate consolation?

  3. Do you desire and long to love Him more, as you ought to be?

Psalm 26:8; Psalm 27:4; Philippians 3:7-8; Matthew 13:44-46

Pray

Father, we come to you in prayer in the name of your Son, to keep on asking and pleading for the greatest gift—that is to rightly behold Him, our Lover-Redeemer. Please let us see that He is truly to be desired above all things. Please let us see that He is truly more than enough for us, and in Him, we can truly find everything that we really need here and hereafter. May His beauties and excellencies propel and compel us to go after Him, and that we find our completeness in His very heart. Do not let us wander away from Him, for He is that we truly need. This we pray, in His name, Amen.
