Looking Forward to the All-Happy Love of Christ

Scripture Text: Song of Solomon 2:10-15

My beloved speaks and says to me:

"Arise, my love, my beautiful one,

and come away,

for behold, the winter is past;

the rain is over and gone.

Song of Solomon 2:10-11

In the previous passages, it was emphasized that a heart that has been awakened to the wonders of God in the Beloved [Christ], is a heart that is totally consumed by the Lover-Redeemer, Jesus Christ. The reason why it was (and is still being) emphasized in this series of devotion, is to vividly show according to the Book that a heart that has been renewed will keep on beating with a constant yearning of having more of the Beloved [Christ]. That heart sees Christ as the only source of satisfaction, and it sees Him as all-encompassing. That heart is always looking forward for the all-happy love of the Beloved [Christ].

As the poem/dialogue between the maiden [Church] and the Beloved [Christ] continues, there is another provision of sight of what should our relationship look like. In the greater sense, we must find our hearts together with the maiden as she continues with her daydream of a visit from her Beloved – looking forward for the all-happy love of Christ [Beloved]; “My beloved speaks and says to me: “Arise, my love, my beautiful one, and come away, for behold, the winter is past; the rain is over and gone. The flowers appear on the earth, the time of singing has come, and the voice of the turtledove is heard in our land. The fig tree ripens its figs, and the vines are in blossom; they give forth fragrance. Arise, my love, my beautiful one, and come away. O my dove, in the clefts of the rock, in the crannies of the cliff, let me see your face, let me hear your voice, for your voice is sweet, and your face is lovely. Catch the foxes for us, the little foxes that spoil the vineyards, for our vineyards are in blossom.”” (vv.10-15). The poem displays that the maiden is carried away with her burning passion for her Beloved as she imagines that she is being called by Him. First, she rejoices that she is the object of His comely heart, second, she has confidence that she is the delight of His sight. She then thought of Him inviting her into a glorious celebration of love with Him as they enter to the splendor of spring, with the rain and winter season is gone. The season of springs reflects the experience of felicity and freshness of Christ’s all-happy love. The love that He offers and unconditionally gives to His bride – the Church.

With the poem continuing, the Beloved goes on in figuratively adoring His bride. With every intimate endearment, it conveys a richness of happy love that the Beloved has for the bride.

• The flower appear on the earth, the time of singing has come, and the voice of the turtledove is heard in our land – shows the idea that everything has been made fresh and new, full of brilliant colors that overcomes the deadness and grayness of winter (v.13)

• O my dove, in the clefts of the rock, in the crannies of the cliff, let me see your face, let me hear your voice, for your voice is sweet, and your face is lovely – shows the idea of the Beloved desiring to celebrate and feast his eyes on the comeliness of her whole person. (v.14)

The greatest blessing that one can ever have is to have the Beloved [Christ] Himself and His all-happy love. Having Him fully means to lack of nothing! Remember that He is He, that has chosen to love us with an everlasting love! He is our Lover-Redeemer, our Ruler, and the One who reveals everything to us! Indeed, if He is our Lord, then The LORD is my (our); I (we) shall not want! This requires a deep realization, which will never be attained by the flesh and blood. And when one has finally understand what it means to have the Lover-Redeemer, that person will find himself together with the maiden [Church], totally consumed by the Beloved [Christ], and always all for Him, who He is the sum of all beauties and blessedness!

We have a all-happy lover who bestows infinite happy love. Will you not look forward for its completion, in His return? Never forget that the LORD your God is in your midst, a mighty one who will save; he will rejoice over you with gladness; he will quiet you by his love; he will exult over you with loud singing.

Yes, dear saint, Hosanna to the Son of David! Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord! Hosanna in the highest!

The real believer’s heart is awakened to perceive the wonders of God in the person of our Lover-Redeemer, Jesus Christ! From there, we learn to enthusiastically acclaim, oh taste and see that the LORD is good!

He who does not want know more of Him, knows nothing of Him yet…

Hear this then, dear saint! The LORD preserves all who love him, but all the wicked he will destroy.

Desire communion with Him, who has loved us eternally! Thirst and long for Him! Be in awe of Him, the darling of Heaven! He is all yours… He is all-perfect, all-holy, all-glorious and all-happy! Be exceedingly joyous in being His beloved. If you have truly seen Him, then He is your exceeding joy.

Nobody loves you like He does…

Christ is all that we have! Christ is all that we need!

Take heart, dear saint!

Reflect

1. Do you look forward to be satisfied by the love of Christ?

2. Do you find joy in being the object of God’s love in Christ?

3. Do you desire and long to love Him more, as you ought to be?

Remember

When your thirst for happiness is satisfied by Christ’s love, sin becomes unattractive and everything else becomes worthless compare to Him and what He offers – all-happy (Blessed) everlasting love.

Pray

Father, I come before You in the name of Your Son, to boldly ask and admit that I truly want to behold Christ, but my heart is coward in giving up its foolishness of attempt in finding happiness everywhere. I come trembling, but I do come. Please consume my heart with Christ that I may be totally all for Him. Give me a heart that will only beat for Him, and always looking forward for Him. This I pray, in His saving name. Amen.
