Jesus Christ: The Only True King

Scripture Text: Joshua 5:1

As soon as all the kings of the Amorites who were beyond the Jordan to the west, and all the kings of the Canaanites who were by the sea, heard that the Lord had dried up the waters of the Jordan for the people of Israel until they had crossed over, their hearts melted and there was no longer any spirit in them because of the people of Israel.

Joshua 5:1

What will happen to the people who have many gods, but without God?

What will happen to the people who have many kings, but without a true King?

What will happen to the kings without the true King?

Evidently, people without God will suffer from terrible disasters and the kings without a King will face terrible destruction (Joshua 2:10-11, Psalm 135:11).

In the history of Israel, many unrighteous kings suffered from terrible disaster and destruction because of their total disobedience to the Lord. As a result, the people were led to commit sin through worshipping such idols instead of worshipping and praising our true God.

On the other hand, some earthly kings were righteous in the sight of God, just like David and Hezekiah. They were blessed by the Lord because they lived according to the will of God and acknowledged Him as their true King. Also, even the famous pagan King Nebuchadnezzar acknowledged the Lord as God of gods and Lord of kings (Daniel 2:47).

Therefore, all people on earth—whether kings, rulers, or ordinary citizens—need God through Jesus Christ. He is Son of the living God, the Savior, Messiah, Creator, Lord of lords and King of kings. He is the King of the ages. The King of Israel and all nations and has the authority in heaven and on earth. He is our King forever!

Altogether as a citizen of His kingdom, we must honor, respect, obey and do His will while waiting for the second coming of our Lord Jesus Christ. While we are waiting, we must strengthen our faith, our love, and deepen our relationship with Him through the empowerment of the Holy Spirit.

Reflect

1. Who is your only king?

2. Do you have other kings in your life?

3. Do you acknowledge Jesus Christ as your real King?

4. Do you proclaim His excellencies to the world?

Remember

Our King Jesus Christ is not an ordinary king. He is an everlasting Lord who reigns forever and ever. He owns heaven and outside heavens. He is the perfect and loving King for His people. That is why He continues to prepare His people and make them His proper kingdom people.

Pray

Dear Jesus, we praise You for being our Lord, Savior, and our great King whose love never ceases. Thank You because You chose us as citizens of Your kingdom. Thank You for the opportunities and privileges You have given to us as servants of Your kingdom through the church. Allow us to know You more and help us to proclaim Your excellencies to the world through the empowerment of the Holy Spirit. In Your Name. Amen!
