Jesus Christ is the Ultimate Sign

Scripture Text: Judges 6:17-24

And he said to him, “If now I have found favor in your eyes, then show me a sign that it is you who speak with me.

Judges 6:17 ESV

It was very clear that Gideon doubted and feared the Lord that's why he requested for a sign to prove that He was really the Lord who commanded him. On the other hand, the Lord answered all the signs he requested (vv. 20-21, 36-40). Also, the Lord assured Gideon that His presence is with him while he was doing the task to deliver and save the Israelites (vv. 14, 16).

Talk about doubting, when God called Abraham for a divine purpose, he obeyed the Lord immediately. Abraham did not hesitate nor doubt, and he did not ask any sign to prove that God was the one who commanded him.

When the Lord Jesus Christ called Simon-Peter, Andrew, James and, John to be His disciples, they followed Him immediately without asking question nor signs from Him, because they knew and believed that Jesus was the promised Messiah who saves the world.

What would Christians do today?

When God calls us for the divine purpose, we must do also the good deeds—the immediate response done by some Bible characters mentioned above. There is a demand for obedience right away. No need to wait for signs from God because our Lord Jesus Christ alone is the ultimate sign for us to do the task. The Lord assured our safety and protection wherever we go.

Therefore, we need to abide by God through Him, love and trust Him with all our heart, soul and strength so that we can glorify our Father in heaven. We must avoid any hesitation, doubt, and fear. All we have to do as His people is to obey Him forever!

Reflection

1. Do you trust the Lord Jesus Christ by walking In faith, and not by sight?

2. Or, do you doubt His mighty power?

3. Are you willing to do the task entrusted to you by Jesus through His church?

Remember

The mark of a true believer-follower is manifested by trust and obedience to Christ, that glorifies His name forever.

Pray

Father God, with much gratitude, I present myself before Your throne, full trust and confidence in Your sovereignty. Help me to discern what is Yours and what is not. Help me not to doubt You, but in everything, help me to fully entrust my life to You. Heavenly Father, keep me in Your loving embrace, that I may never doubt You in anyway. In Jesus' mighty name. Amen!
